But then 'the ex' (yes, THAT one) texted, and asked if I'd got anywhere with him, and like an idiot I told him.......and since then I've had 2 texts, one to inform me he is on a date with a girl he has seen a few times now, and another telling me he really likes her. :(

He is purposely trying to hurt me, I know - so why am I letting it bother me. :(

Sorry I'm a lurker on your thread but just had to say that if he really likes this girl then why is he texting YOU while actually out on a date with her? Could his text to you not have waited until he was alone rather than mid date? What a charmer he is

The answer to that is easy - find nice ones. Yes, they do exist...

Well, it's only a few weeks ago that he was saying he was in love with me and I was his world.....so who knows what goes on in his head. I agree, if he is texting me from the date, it does say something about his true feelings for her.

When we split up he said it was because we had something really good but he wasn't ready for a relationship and he got scared. Since then though he has plunged headlong into a series of relationships, all with girls he has 'really liked'. But he still wants to keep me hanging on waiting for him I think.

I'm not sure he's capable of loving anyone but himself - he's 34 with 2 failed marriages and 20-odd other failed relationships.

We did have something though - but he has thrown it away now.

Yuck, sorry you are going through something similar. It's nasty, but I think it does get easier. I'm not as upset now as I was the first hundred-odd times he hurt me...

I wish I knew where though, and that I would be attracted to them.
