What do you think of this idea?

Im thinking about setting up a website like youtube but specifically for gig and concert videos.

People will be able to upload videos of gigs theyve been to and other users who also attended the gig will be able to log on and search for the gig and download videos of the event if ones uploaded for it. There will be a rating system and the best videos will be only available to download for a premium user.

Reason being that i go to alot of gigs and concerts and sometimes my video quality is not so good or my battery runs out on my digital camera or my mobile phone etc and it would be good to get videos of the gig from different areas of the venue or closer to the stage or just have videos for the memory of the gig.

Another option could be then also to have pictures too.

Each user will have their own profile and be able to comment on other peoples videos etc

Ive looked over the internet and there doesnt seem to be anything like that, fair enough people can look on youtube for it but theres no direct download for it?

This is just the basic concept, what do you reckon?

I suspect if they think you are making any money out of then they would look on it as exploiting their artist

Prince just had people working for a year removing stuff from youtube and other sites as he was lauching his own site

Sounds very ambitious! Not sure it'd work though as people do already have Youtube. I'd also check with the RIAA first as they'd no doubt have something to say about you streaming video without coughing up the cash.

This sounds quite similar to what Fabchannel did and they had to close once or twice while they reworked their business model to satisfy the demands of the labels. Eventually, they had to close because what was being demanded wasn't feasible and so what should have been an asset to music promotion was closed.

Ah well. I may give the appopriate people a call tomorrow and see what they say.

I may move away from premium users then and just have downloads for members and try and make some cash of advertising.

It says on the back of my gig ticket here "No professional "type" cameras, video cameras or tape recorders will be allowed into the venue"

Screw the Recording Industry Association of America.

If the OP is based in the UK, and the website will be, it's the PRS and MCPS he'd have to worry about first.

Why would someone use your service and not YouTube?

Why do you feel you can compete with Google?

These are the questions you need to be asking yourself.

Because you cant download there videos without having software etc, i want the videos and pics to just be straight downloadable by registered users etc

Ill admit ive downloaded youtube videos which may have been copyrighted but ive had to download them and then convert the files etc to work with my ipod or phone etc

I want to offer a video of U2 at Wembley for example, you register then are able to download the video in AVI, WMV, MP4 format or whatever formats are available

Indeed, I couldn't think of the UK version. ;)
