OK, but make sure you fully remove AVG though-you can't run both together. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I thought I'd done it yesterday, but today it started doin its job again so I tried uninstalling once more. Eventually got this message:I have tried 3 times to uninstall AVG free edition, and each time it has failed with the following information:
Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for file setup.exe: creating backup....
Access is denied. (5) %DESTINATION% = "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\setup.exe.install_backup", %SOURCE% = "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\setup.exe"
PS - after all the fuss it seems the Paypal request was genuine after all. Tried a different PC today and still the same question.C'est le ton qui fait la chanson0 -

Use the link that macman posted
If its STILL there then uninstall Avast. Reinstall AVG (Over the top). Use the AVG removal tool and reinstall Avast (Nightmare I know, but welcome to the sh*t that is AVG):idea:0 -
Thanks both - I've had to uninstall Avast! as no matter what I try, AVG won't leave me! The link from their website causes "an illegal operation" so it looks like I'm stuck with it...:mad:C'est le ton qui fait la chanson0

I would strongly advise getting a new pc, in relative terms they've never been cheaper and you should really be using the latest OS because security is massively important these days and getting more so.A problem shared is a problem multiplied.0
