Which is because it's not very good at finding them....
You must be running an older version, because the current one (8.0) does not support anything older than Windows 2000. However with W98 your AV options are rather limited.
Also be aware that the is no firewall protection with AVG Free, and none built into W98, so you are running without any firewall protection. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

It's version 7.5. I think a newer OS migt be on the cards....
Still haven't sorted Paypal, but presumably as I've not answered their request for my CC details I should still be safe?? I feel such a numpty - I'm so careful about fake emails but when it's a URL you've typed yourself you think it'll be OK...:rolleyes:C'est le ton qui fait la chanson0 -

If the OP's OH is addicted to obsolete technology, then a USB modem is more likely. She hasn't mentioned a router as far as I can see.
This has got me thinking about the internet banking aspect. If you get hacked running an insecure OS, or running without proper security, are the banks likely to start saying that they will not refund you, because you have been negligent? Up until now they have been fairly lenient (no doubt to encourage the take-up of online banking to reduce their overheads). But with 20m people apparently now using some form of online banking, the losses must be mounting up, which is presumably why all the major banks are offering free security software, handing out card readers etc. So I can see them taking a tougher line before too long.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
