BG is owned by Centrica which is British: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrica
As far as the sales person is concerned, if you sign up with them then they get the commission, whether the conversion takes place or not it irrelevant as it still counts towards their target.
Are you able to scan in any of the paperwork with the costs on it or have any paperwork on the discount card as I cant believe Asda would offer something that would get you 6% off food and fuel in the current climate from a company they have no affiliation with.
If this was such a good deal then more people would have posted about it so people are rightfully sceptical about it...
Yes but like i said i am not going to sign anything if it isnt what has been discussed, believe it or not i do read things i sign so it might be a bit of a stumbling block for them if the contract says completly different, i can imagine the coversation lol
paper work is at home i am at work and i dont have a scanner unfortunately, i have just contacted Southern due to the concerns expressed and i will update you once i get a response.
the paperwork regarding the discount card looks legitimate it has all teh logos of all the companies it gives diso!!!! for them and how it applies it is all on Southern headed and background pages, and looks very legitimate, if its not then they have signed their death warrent as i doubt these companies will approv of them using their logo without permission or reason.
I am told that Southern is one of the only 3 britsh energy companies which do not have to pay as much to deliver energy hence why they have lower prices, lol @ your wiki link, you are a fool if you believe anything off there which can be edited by anyone:T
anyway i have the opinion so will just wait for confirmation, i will also (if i can get access to a scanner) get a copy of any form/agreement i am to sign and post it here before i do anything
in the same notion as your above comments i doubt Southern would incriminate themselves in such a manner and so obviously that they could be taken to the cleaners by a large selection of big high street names ( and the peopel they are scamming) just on the off chance of getting 1 persons energy supply contract ? kind of makes no sense, unless they are exempt form the law system ??0 -
Centrica are listed on the UK FTSE 100 so are as British as it comes for a large company. See here: http://www.centrica.com/index.asp?pageid=65
Just to warn you..I was once told a pack of lies by a southern electric salesman. He told me they were cheapest as they owned Didcot power station (nearest power sation to where I live) so they could deliver it cheaper. This is rubbish as in terms of delivering electricty, this will generally be dealt with by National Grid (and in the case of gas, Transco are responsible for this). They are only interested in their commissions!0 -

Fair enough, i will be very vigilante when dealing with this, but i hope you made sure he didn't lie to anyone else again, this dude will be reported to trading standards and teh like for sure if this is wrong and i will write to every company they are advocating having connections with, he wont be laughing if he is lying

You seem to be very sure that this is total fraud which is totally shocking, do you work for Southern or something ?
i cant see how it will benefit them as if it isnt just as described and i take it out im not exactly going to stand for it am i ?
he explained the discount and it is not what you are suggesting , it is a discount card that can be used at loads of retailers for varying agreed discount value's i mentioned Asda as they are just around the corner from me and the i am told the card will give 6% from any purchase in the shop and fuel.
I will give them a ring later if i get chance, just to confirm.
i am a very cinical person but i see absolutely no reason for this to be a lie/scam, i have heard of people coming to the door and saying they have the best prices etc but when you look into it they are wrong, this guy has shown me the specifcs of the offer, allowed me to take them away and coem back to him, im sure the trading standards would have something to say if they were being completly fraudulent.
@ Cardew - can you show me some of the ample evidence of this common fraud please ?
@ Rain1988 - how can you say that ? what evidence have you got to support what you say, doesnt sound like he described and i cant see how 21 year old can be so sure such of the definitive pricing strucute of a huge national industry, the guy explained why teh costs are a lot lower than BG etc its because they are 1 of only 3 energy companies that are actually british based and run, BG is French i am told. I told you the prices and details of the Asda discount above and i cant remember which other venders it was valid atbut teher were a lot.
but anyway what i wanted to clarify was if this was a good deal, it sounds by the disbelief that it is so i think i will investigate further and will be sure to keep you upto date, you never know you may have to eat your hats
Please don't bring my age into it as by the sounds of it I know a lot more about this industry that you do, and I am 18 not 21 thank you.
I can not guarantee what I said about the Asda discount but it sounds like there moneysavers tariff (I have some info somewhere so I will try and find it). But I can assure you what I said about the prices are correct. The standard tariff (which is really all they have except and online tariff which has a circa. 2% discount and the energyplus care tariff which gives a 20% discount roughly) has a tier 2 price of 3.15ppu ex vat and inc dd discount.0 -
Aceades,
There is no point in getting into confrontation about this matter. I think we all accept that you are stating what you have been told.
I have no idea about the Asda card - that is why I asked for details. I am aware of another utility firm that have a pre-paid card that gives 5% discount applied to your bill - the problem being this company's gas and electricity is very expensive.
I am more concerned about the message you have been given about gas at 2.01p/kWh which, to repeat myself, I just don't believe!
I will be quite happy to 'eat my hat' if proved wrong on that matter.
If you want to read some stories about Southern electricity salesmen just do a search on this forum and there might be some media reports available on line.0 -
I will eat my whole body is they offer gas at 2.01p per kwh. acaedes have you called them to find out?Aceades,

There's loads about these monkeys all over the net. Google really IS your friend at times like these, aceades. I believe SE door knockers are arguably the most complained about in the industry.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Late response but I have just spoken to Southern Electric who did offer me differing prices to those on the net but my gas was only 3.24p so not quite as low. May not live in the same area tho ... I am in South East (Herts)
I wonder (and sorry if this is previously obvious) that the rep got down to the 2.01p by applying the following discounts:
Monthly Direct Debit 5%
Online Billing 1.5%
Duel Fuel 3%
Total kwh 2.93p or 2.86p depending on the maths ....almost there but not quite.0 -

Hi, I just wanted to ask if SE are charging you a standing charge amount per day and if so how much this is? I am currently changing to EDF and found out today that they don't charge the standing charge rate which I have been paying with SE. If they are charging you the standing charge, this might be why the rates per unit are able to be so low.0
