Gas and Electric rates

Hi,

i was on here a few months ago considering my energy supplier, i choose BG Click 6 which seemed to be the best at teh time + i got cashback.

I have been visted at my door twice now by a southern electric rep who says they can offer much better 'deregulated' rates which are not available on the net, the rates are as follows and really are alot lower than my BG rates.......

Gas
initial - 4.10
after - 2.01

Electric
initial - 13.73
after - 9.99

My current rates are as follows (which have recently dropped)

Gas
initial - 6.84
after - 3.275

Electric
initial - 23.921
after - 11.035


are these really a good deal ? , how do they stack up again what you guys are using ?




Also if anyone knows (as i would love to take advantage) what are the rates offer by scottish power in the new Quidco £100 cash back switch ? - looking again maybe not such a good idea as they force you top have Direct Debit


i am a little unsure as i have had a lot of trouble with SP before but it seems all of these companies have terrible service if you have any out of the ordinary issues.

any comments appreciated

I cannot believe that Southern electricity have gas prices that low. 2.01p????

Looking at the website their gas prices are higher than BG click 6.

I would get that in writing!!

i have it in writing , also details all the discounts i get off practically everything, including 6% at ASDA on everything including Fuel !

sound really good, they cant put it on the web as its for certain areas only

It sounds too good to be true. I would phone SE and ask them to confirm what you have been told. The SE salesmen do get a bad rep from a lot of people. If it turns out to be correct then go for it.

I am surprised that they can't put it on the web, even if it is for certain areas.

All Southern Electricity prices for gas are around 3.5p for tier 2 not 2.01p

ok i didn't expect such a negaive repsonse regarding it, i would find it hard to belive that a reputable company would just come to my door and lie to get business but maybe i should check it out further and confirm again, i have the print out of the rates applicable but to be honest i dont like to buy anything from someone that knocks the door, it was just that my bill landed the next day from BG and i compared rates and the above is what i saw so it made me think about changing, i will double check its still valid but it sounds like it must be a good deal if you guys cant belive its genuine.

There is ample evidence that is exactly what many of these doorstop knocker do; lie. Even forging signatures on applications is not unknown. It is not the company - but the commission driven individuals.

If you have a 'printout' can you please give some more details - area/prices etc. Especially the Asda discount card.

Southern Electric DO NOT offer a tier 2 price as low as 2.01ppu on gas. And the Asda discount is not a discount card but one of those buy vouchers in advance and save etc.

You seem to be very sure that this is total fraud which is totally shocking, do you work for Southern or something ?

i cant see how it will benefit them as if it isnt just as described and i take it out im not exactly going to stand for it am i ?

he explained the discount and it is not what you are suggesting , it is a discount card that can be used at loads of retailers for varying agreed discount value's i mentioned Asda as they are just around the corner from me and the i am told the card will give 6% from any purchase in the shop and fuel.

I will give them a ring later if i get chance, just to confirm.


i am a very cinical person but i see absolutely no reason for this to be a lie/scam, i have heard of people coming to the door and saying they have the best prices etc but when you look into it they are wrong, this guy has shown me the specifcs of the offer, allowed me to take them away and coem back to him, im sure the trading standards would have something to say if they were being completly fraudulent.


@ Cardew - can you show me some of the ample evidence of this common fraud please ?

@ Rain1988 - how can you say that ? what evidence have you got to support what you say, doesnt sound like he described and i cant see how 21 year old can be so sure such of the definitive pricing strucute of a huge national industry, the guy explained why teh costs are a lot lower than BG etc its because they are 1 of only 3 energy companies that are actually british based and run, BG is French i am told. I told you the prices and details of the Asda discount above and i cant remember which other venders it was valid atbut teher were a lot.

but anyway what i wanted to clarify was if this was a good deal, it sounds by the disbelief that it is so i think i will investigate further and will be sure to keep you upto date, you never know you may have to eat your hats :eek:

BG is owned by Centrica which is British: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrica

As far as the sales person is concerned, if you sign up with them then they get the commission, whether the conversion takes place or not it irrelevant as it still counts towards their target.

Are you able to scan in any of the paperwork with the costs on it or have any paperwork on the discount card as I cant believe Asda would offer something that would get you 6% off food and fuel in the current climate from a company they have no affiliation with.

If this was such a good deal then more people would have posted about it so people are rightfully sceptical about it...
