Its a sad day when you can read on CAG people recruiting others to post on MSE simply to wind up MSE users, that sort of post was/is not the ethos that either website was set up for nor I hope, condone. There is a place for both websites and all users should be treated politely no matter where they post.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted
I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

Na, they just want you to use it so they can come along in a couple of months and take it away and get more money in charges.
Seriously.... possibly, you should have a good idea if your credit rating is getting better (ie you havent borrowed any extra cash and have repaid on time) it could also be your standing within the bank (internal scoring) has increased.0 -
I've had my £1K unused overdraft facility withdrawn. No review - just a letter. As per previous poster, it's my safety net. I am thinking that if I ask for it to be re-instated, they will want an arrangement fee, that's the cynic in me.
Mabel - you are very judgemental and a little self righteous in your post - yes, there are always abusers, but especially now in the current economic climate, there are genuine cases who need some slack. A little compassion wouldn't go amiss.
How long has it been unused for?

On a side not I am loving Pedros responses to 'T&Cs you don't need to read them and they don't mean anything when you sign them apart from a get out of jail free card for the banks'. Oh how it is making me chuckle.0 -

I tried to use my debit card in three different shops - all of which were declined.
It was only when I telephoned the bank (First Direct) that I was told my overdraft had been reduced from £500 to £200. I explained that I new it was a temporary facility but thought the end date was in May 09.
I was offered another overdraft facility (taking it back to £500) until 1st May - which was less than a week away, but would have to pay a £25 administration charge.
I have been charged and feel disgusted that a large banking organisation cannot send out a reminder letter a month before hand or even just a text message! I have been with this bank for over 15 years and funnily enough just asked for the bank charges I'd paid over the last six years last week.
At first I did this out of curiosity - just to see how much I've paid. I felt too loyal/ cheeky to the bank to ask for this money back. But now, with the aforementioned episode, I'm determined to claim back what's mine!

We're hearing worrying stories of banks closing people's overdrafts, while they're overdrawn, without warning and sometimes adding charges because they're then in the red.
We want to know how widespread this is, so please report any problems.

Guys, this thread was to indicate how widespread this situation is at themoment. Not for people to discuss, have a go or lord it up over people that are in their overdrafts.Out of a breakdown...
comes a breakthrough! :A0 -
well said Digitalia........i'll be quiet for a while to let everyday people have their say.
