Lunchtime update.......most things done, but the housework has made only little impression.....(although I have done more washing and ironing, so the ironing pile is under control.....), so my last half hour will have to be a blitz I think!!

  • Hi Hypno,

Looks like you have done remarkably well today, hope you manage to get some MS jobs.

Not done much here today as DS has been 'ill'? He's spent about 2 hours in bed since lunchtime, not complaining of being ill, just really tired.

Sorry that DS is feeling a bit under the weather - I know how he feels!!

There must be *some* difference in the house today.....but I am not sure that anyone would notice such! I will keep plugging away at it over the next few days in between other things  and will see if I can get somewhere by the end of the weekend......

Considering how much ironing I did over the weekend, I seem to have done an awful lot of it today.....I have been keeping E.on in business due to the amount of washing, drying and ironing I have been doing......and still some way to go!!

Off to get the children shortly from skiing, then chaos will be restored :o

I've just caught up with the last few days of your thread and firstly well done on all the ironing :T:T.

I can really see where you're coming from with cleaning, ironing etc. My OH is terrible at being motivated to do anything (mind you I've seen what his parents house is like and they have a cleaner!) and what generally happens is things get left, because I'm fed up he isn't 'pulling his weight' and then I'm busy with something else until I finally snap and have a manic marathon like yesterday - which OH did help with for a bit and then got bored.

I've tried flylady too and it doesn't help me as I'm at work during the week and out at least 2 week day evenings, one of them straight from work and find it really hard to 'keep up'.

Having time off at home last week really helped me to think and I'm trying to devise my own 'flylady' based around our commitments, what needs doing etc - no children and no pets mean that some things don't need doing at all/doing less in our house. Being realistic as to what I have time for and what OH can be 'persuaded' to help with! So far making sure all washing up is done before we go to bed each night - something we're generally bad at doing :o I've managed it about 9 nights in a row now - just need to get OH on board and we'll be well away.

Anyway sorry for rambling on your thread - I was trying to empthaise with your housework issues, my mum's never had a cleaner as she's always said she'd be so busy tidying up and cleaning for the cleaner they'd be no point in them coming!

Sounds like you've had a good day off and you've finally given me the motivation to go and checkout dooyoo!

Thanks YL - that is exactly how it gets me......then you end up in a vicious circle.......and of course the children etc just add to it, and although they are good kids and do help, it really is just constantly scratching at the surface, then giving up because you are fighting an uphill battle!

Still, I have scratched a little deeper over the last few days, and if I can keep the ironing up to date then that will be a significant improvement......so my first challenge to myself is to get the washing up to date too, which should be done by the end of today, and to keep the washing/drying/ironing up to date.

My hoover has died though - obviously went into shock at the thought of being used twice in two days.......am hoping it is not terminal because I can't really afford a new one, having just bought a bloomin lawnmower, and although my carpets are bad, I don't think they justify using the lawnmower on them just yet!

Have you double checked the filters? They may need a wash if you have washable ones. Thats what caused mine to cut out after cleaning my carpets for the 1st time after buying a new hoover. My old one was pretty much an antique - it was amazing (and rather scary ) the amount of stoor that came out of what looked like a clean carpet when I used the new one! :o

taka, I have emptied it and done the filters, checked the brushes underneath and it all seems ok, but it just doesn't want to pick up unless I use the hose
