That poem made me cry too - we lost two very special oldies last year, and the memories came flooding back.
It never gets any easier to do this, no matter how many pets you have had over the years - but I always try to remember all the years of good times that we had, rather than their last days. They all stay with you, tucked away safely in your heart :heartpuls.
I did a lot of crying last October & November, but I still cry occasionally about Ted.
I still can't read rainbow bridge without welling up.0 -
He is still here Yay!!
Better than yesterday. Woke me in night as per usual.
Hungry. Roast whole chicken at 5 am, for his breakfast.
I love him.
*LOL* I had a feeling he might be!
Thing is, even on good days, just realise that tomorrow he may not be so good ... or he might go a while before having another fit and it might knock him low for a few days before he comes back from it.
Or, and I hope to goodness it's a long way off, he might take a fit and not come out of it as happened to my dog.
Basically, don't assume anything, enjoy all the ups and if he is having downtime, don't necessarily think he's had it!
It's an absolute emotional rollercoaster having an animal that is prone to fits ... but you can never say cos they are not themselves today that they won't be better tomorrow ... you'll know yourself when he's had enough ... it won't just be that he sleeps more (they can sleep more to recover from the fits), you'll just know you're at the end of the road and unfortunately you just never know when that will be ... but for now just enjoy his "ups" ... *S*
:T
Errr, by the way, I get hungry about 8am, so can I order some roast chicken too?! He he he!!0 -
Very Sad News...
For all of you who have been asking after Jaffa - sadly he was given sleep on Friday morning.
As I'm sure you can imagine, Mutter is absolutely in pieces and cannot face posting at the present time. I'm sure, when she is feeling up to it, she will post more about her beloved Jaffa. In the meantime, she just needs some time to grieve.
We can all understand that she cannot face reading poems, etc, at the moment, but she may get some comfort from knowing we are all thinking of her. Thank you.

Poor Mutter. I know it will be a while but there will be a time when she will be able to think of him and the wonderful times they had together rather than just the memory of his illness and passing and I truly hope that time will be soon.
Every single one of us who has a companion animal is truly blessed. The heartbreak of losing them is a small price to pay for the wonderful love and companionship they give us.0 -
please send my sympathies to Mutter - we all know how she feels and if there is one place where she can come and get some support it is here...when she is ready...Jaffa, sleep tight little one x0

So sorry Mutter.

Having just read Jaffa's story I wanted to offer my condolences. I truly understand how painful it is, as i'm sure do all the other posters who have helped to advise you.
Please try to remember you gave Jaffa the best possible life and you can't ever take that away. I still refer to my precious kitty Katie (pts dec 2005) in the present tense as in I love her, we never stop loving them just because they are no longer with us.
Go easy on yourself and know you did the best for Jaffa.
My thoughts are with you.
