Oh, I'll be there with him.
Thing is, am I dispatching him too soon?0 -

SO sorry to hear of what you face tomorrow, only you will know if it is too soon, but it doesn't sound like it is. It is better to let them go when they still have their dignity in tact and before they start to experience great discomfort and pain. I will be thinking of you and wishing Jaf a safe journey...
This is for you and Jaf, my favourite poem, it gave me great comfort when Storm was PTS:
I was chosen today
I'm learning to fly
the world took me away,
but please don't you cry.
And I chose you today
to try and be strong
so please don't you cry
and don't say that I'm gone.
When you're feeling alone
just remember our love,
I'm up near the stars
looking down from above.
Remember our love
in a moment you'll see
that I'm still here beside you
When you're thinking of me.0 -
The lovely warm doggy smelly hair.
That smell, that all in the family go Eeuugh, "get him away from me". Dog shaking even more.
Dog even more the centre of attraction. I love them.0 -
Well please don't all shout at me ... *L* ... but I think I would wait a little while longer.
Toby had some really down days when he would sleep, then he could go maybe 3 or 4 days and be his normal self.
I think myself, (and I am not a vet), that the fits take more out of them than we realise and sometimes it is as though the body needs to almost shut down to try and recover a bit.
I have seen dogs and cats have a fit, recover the same day then for one or two days not move from their baskets ... then they have gone on a good few weeks before looking off it ...
It's a nasty situation ... you don't want your pet to worry that you're not there incase they take another fit, and you don't want to put them to sleep "too soon" if you see what I mean ...
I always look at my pets ... really deep in their eyes ... if they have lost their spark then they show us when they have had enough ... we worry so much that we get the timing right ... if they still have quality of life and the fits are not close together then they may still have a little time left to be with us ...
But if your pet doesn't want to do the things he or she normally does and seems to be slowing down to the point where every day is a bad day where they don't do much, or, in my case, if the fits are constant and cannot be controlled, then it is time ...
Just my own personal thoughts ... nobody can tell you or advise you what you should do ... but I've been there myself .. I had 6 weeks sleeping on the floor with Toby cos I was so scared he would fit in the night and roll off my bed ... but those nights weren't bad times .. we would play till the early hours and he enjoyed having me with him, just the two of us ... my attention totally on him.
I'd say don't make any decision till morning comes and see what it brings with it ... leave it till then to decide ... because the times I made my mind up and then the little blighter would show some spirit and be almost like his old self again!
At the end of the day, they will fight for us ... fight to keep going, to be with us and protect us and do things ... we have to carefully guage when we step in to free them from that responsibility ...0 -
Frugalista, you made me cry
Sorry!!
That poem made me cry too - we lost two very special oldies last year, and the memories came flooding back.
It never gets any easier to do this, no matter how many pets you have had over the years - but I always try to remember all the years of good times that we had, rather than their last days. They all stay with you, tucked away safely in your heart :heartpuls."Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so that stupid people won't be offended.0 -
