I (and the dog) could do that - we like watercress. If it's on the flat along a river, that's fine!
Somehow I don't think BB is that fussed about watercress...And well done on your objectives. But tell me (and you'll be able to guess that I've been my own boss for far too long!) why are YOU having to write them? Why doesn't your boss write them for you?
erm... objectives are supposed to be cascaded down, but...
a. this takes ages
b. quite often there is nothing in my boss's objectives that relates to my team except managing his cost code (this is NOT nice if you have my team in it... we have no budget, but have millions going in and out every month, so it's a nightmare to keep track of!)
b. no one knows what my team do (well, not the full picture anyway)
c. I have a temporary boss
d. this way I can get finance & commercial to sign off on them, so my new line management (whenever they are agreed) can't interfere
When I give my team objectives, I usually give them some guidelines (e.g. improve data quality) and ask them to come up with a definition for the objective and the success measures themselves. I find that putting the thought into the objective (particularly when I'm pulling it apart and showing them how difficult it will be for them to prove that they've achieved it), makes them think more about what the parameters are and what they actually need to do, what the dependencies are etc. (I have to keep reminding them about the SMART thing... and thank god we've got rid of the balanced scorecard as they never got that!). They also all need to consult each other as I give them overlapping/interdependent objectives. It's good for them.
The way our system is set up, the individual initiates and owns the performance contract, which is agreed by the line manager (or in my case, it appears, by my ex-line manager).
TBH, as we're restructuring, I don't see a huge amount of point in doing this, as things are bound to change mid-year... probably carefully designed so that we can't achieve what we set out to do at the beginning of the year and therefore won't achieve targets, get pay rises/bonuses etc.
Then again... I might not have a job by then0 -
I can see your mountain of paperwork through your shiny windows!
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Sad thing is you actually can.... desk is full at the moment of stuff to file and stuff to throw...
Well, I have washed down the bannisters and woodwork in the hall and up the stairs - not because I'm being good, but because I put my cuppa down on the top and knocked it off all down the wall, down the stairs and it dripped down the hall wall too...:mad::mad: Not so much because of the cleaning, but coz I missed my cuppa...;)
Am watching Fringe now, or I would end up killing DS - 3 bags of rubbish out of his room again (how?????does he go out collecting it from the street?) and am sitting in the front room putting his desk together.... it calms me... :rotfl:

Also sending good luck & get well vibes to anyone that needs, which reminds me, Hex how did the interview go? I'll have a look back in a mo & see if I can find out..
Anyway I'm in again this week please. Thanks to Pigpen & Toots for the lists & stars. My pooter still won't let me copy & paste so will just type out whats left to do each day. Hope thats ok.
Off to have a read back now...0 -
I'm in again this week.
NOT a THING done last week !!!!
Sister came for Easter w/e - stayed till Tuesday - husband just left her after 29 yrs and she is a WRECK!! - not a bit of selfconfidence left - has never done ANYTHING on her own (not even gone to the doctors on her own !!??).
I feel loads of empathy for anyone in this position but have never been there myself so do not understand completely why she cannot stand up for herself and start looking out for herself. Does that sound terribly harsh because I don't mean it to sound that way.
I love her to bits but don't live near enough to hold her hand all the time.
So...... have had a VERY draining week and am now ready to put my house in order again - it was looking OK when she arrived on Maundy Thursday ................ here goes
Not read last weeks thread so if anyone needs any hugs or anything alse then here they are :kisses: :kisses3:

Off to bed to read for a while, decluttered living room before i came to bed which wasnt too bad as i had done most of it today.
Also wiped the sofas earlier today and hoovered all downstairs and up the staircase, but will do again tomorrow as it wont hurt. The dog being here kinda means it needs hoovering every day anyway.
Love to all, sleep tight - especially Pigpen hopefully xSometimes lurking, sometimes posting, but always flying
