I'm hope the points I've raised are old news!

I'm not sure whether your post was helpful by linking ntl as the owner of the now defunct website nthellworld.com . Everyone else was referring to a different nthellword site which is not owned by ntl.

    I hope this make sense.

Whose everyone else your the only person who keeps mentioning the site.

The facts are quite clear. they are getting rid of their 0800 number, and as you point out people can move on to another supplier, and no doubt get a better service if they so desire.

Actually Pricefighter and Echo have referred to cable forum which is the same site as nthellworld (the one not owned by ntl).

    I fully agree.

And just for the record here is a brief history of nthellworld. Nthellworld.com was started by Frank Whitestone as protest site for ntl customers. NTL later bought the site for 20 pieces of silver & Frank took up a job offer. Frank later became disullusioned with ntl, went on long term sick and later resigned from the company. The website was closed down by ntl and another nthellworld site appeared under a different domain. The new nthellworld site was not owned by ntl but was run by the team that managed the closed nthellworld. The website took a turn for the worse when ntl employees flooded the forum and offering help to customers in order to influence their way of thinking.

A caller to the Steven Rodes consumer programme on BBC 3 counties radio mentioned this topic of the withdrawal of the 0800 number and having to call expensive 0870 and 0845 numbers.

Steven Rodes considered phoning 'the company' but then decided not to take it up in the end saying you win some you lose some, you can always change provider. He also defended the 0845 number saying that the BBC radio station uses their 0845 number so that every body in the region pays the same rate!!

When will people get it into thier heads that regional charges were dropped ages ago and national call charges are now the same as local on most packages. The BBC is one of the worst offenders of the 0870 and 0845 scams, but their consumer programmes use these! Crazy. I will be telling my friend to ditch NTL. Shes already fed up with them.

That's the standard lie the telecoms providers spin - and people like him pass on because they know no better (the obviously get paid too much if they really don't know how much ordinary phone calls cost).

Hence, the lie gets spread and becomes 'the truth' - except to the few of us.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

We are putting in place initiatives to ensure any customer who is on hold for three minutes or more is given the option to request a free call back from us.
from the Cable Forum announcement here so not quite as bad as some folks are making out.

It always amazes me the number of people who offer the seemingly viable alternative 'well, if you don't like it, move to Freeview' - for people like me who want Sky Sports, and do not want to subscribe to Sky, this simply is not possible...

So you consider this to be good that they offer ring back.

I dont know about you when i ring with a problem,i would like an answer there and then, not when it suits them to call me back.Whatever next.

    I concur.

I've tried the ring back facility last week and it does work though you can't predict when they would call back. I would imagine that if enough people decided the use the call back system then ntl may have trouble in returning the calls. It makes me wonder if ntl had thought this through.

Again I would add a pinch of salt to whatever comments they make on cableforum. The site is heavily populated with ntl employers covering their !!!!!! or for their company. I mean, what sane customer mind paying calls for customer services?

Did anyone read the post about a customer calling ntl everyday for a conversation? Even if it was true it does not justify ntl to charge for calls to customer services as the vast majority (2.9 million customers) have genuine reasons to call.

Some of the ntl employers say that customer shouldn't whinge over small change. How incredible? If it was small change then why is ntl charging calls to CS?

BBC Watchdog prog changed its 0870 number to a London 020 number months ago due to pressure from this site and others, so complain.

BTW the non- geo scams were set up by BT, and became prominent when NTL amalgamated all rates into their 3-2-1 tariff, BT had to reluctantly follow, but tried on 4-3-2-1 first, before giving in.
