    Hello!

Chances are your faulty speedo is just a loose wire. Don't assume the worst the speedos themselves rarely pack up. Bear with me here as I'm assuming you've a car with some digital readout on the speedo dial too. Is that working? Is it the speedo needle thats not working or are both not working?

This is where UK law becomes fun. A working speedo might not be a requirement of an MOT however it is a legal requirement to use a public highway. To quote the Police National Legal Database "Any speedometer that is fitted to a vehicle must be kept in good working order whilst the vehicle is being used on a road. The penalty for failing to have a speedometer in good working order is a fine. However, if the speedometer develops a fault whilst being used or a defect has been discovered then all steps must be taken to rectify the fault with reasonable expedition. This exception only applies when the defect develops and must be repaired before the next journey."

Without a working speedo how are you going to ensure you don't exceed the speed limits?

  • Hi Moo2moo. I don't think there is a digital read out. It is the needle on the speedo which is not working. I have heard it can be just a loose wire, but I have also heard that it can still cost a bit to fix and some people have had problems afterwards. I think that is what is worring me the most. I don't want to pay for someone to fix it for it then to come back again. It is still not working so when I take it for an mot on Thursday I will ask if they are able to fix it for me. I trust this garage more as it is through my work and they are not into ripping of employees.

I only drive to school, mums and shopping. School is up a hill and is only 5 mins away. Lots of speed bumps so unable to go fast anyway. My mums and the shops are about 20mins away. Belive me I am not speeding at all, because I am being overly caution because of this problem which I want to get sorted out as soon as possible. If I was going to go anywhere else then I would use my satnav as this tells me what speed I am going. It is not ideal at all. I have no plans to go anywhere else now until I take it for an mot which will be the furthest distance I will need to drive this week.

  • Another fine day, (I hope). Have a day off work but need to go to the hospital later. It is a horrible rainy day but trying to stay positive.
    Update for yesterdays tasks
    [STRIKE]Cheer up
Need to write a letter for a friend
    Buy ds1 school lunch
    Iron school uniforms[/STRIKE]
I spent £5.97 yesterday so my total spend for the week was £32.95. This doesn't include petrol which was £20.

    Aim for this week
Bank today. Need to put this weeks deposit in.
Shopping for the week / next 3 days (with shopping list)
    Iroining
    Washing
Get my dad to put some stuff in the loft.
Collect and throw/give away at least 5 items I no longer use/need
Ask dad to check my car over before its mot
    Oil change for my car.
    Mot on Thursday
DS1 will now be having swimming lessons at school this Friday, so need to get some new swimming trunks by Thursday.
Pay my exam fee by this Thursday.

I think I have more cleaning duties to do this week than money saving, even though I have to just spend as little as possible.
My shopping budget will be £50 for the week. I really hope not to spend that much but I will just have to see how it goes.
Oh well I had better get started.

I have one good thing to look forward to this week which is my pedicure tomorrow evening. I can't wait.:j

  • Update on today.
Managed to do all the ironing which was left over from last week, so now upto date.
    Done ds1 bed clothes
    Cleaned the bathroom out.
Went to the hospital and have now been signed off as healthly.:j It has been a hard few years but now I am better than ever.
Went to the bank to put a deposit in.
only spent 30p for parking at the bank. Parking at the hospital would have been £3.00 but I parked about 10mins away and walked it, so got some exercise and saved money too:money:
Kids have now been fed and watered. Now running the bath for them. Need to get them ready for bed and home work done before 8pm.

I am going to try and give a friend a call. I haven't spoken to her in ages.

Anyway I must get on with it.:D

  • Been readin yr thread for awhile, think yr doin amazing, would you mind if i asked what yr illness was ?
  • Hi skint, single mum of 4. It is nice to know someone else is reading my diary.
I didn't say what my illness was because I could talk for ages about it and I didn't want to bore anyone.
It was the first time I have ever been ill and in and out of the hospital.
I had fibroids which many women have but they may not know it. Mine decided to grow and grow causing me extreme pain all the time. I was unable to go anywhere. I was like a prisoner in my own home. Well it got really bad in January and on my sons 4th birthday I collapsed on the floor at 4.30am because I had bleed to death. When I say to death I really mean it. I had bled for 6 hours nonstop.
I was taken into the hospital straight away and I had to have 5 blood transfusions. Doctors say I am very luckily to be alive. I have to thank God every day because shortly after I kept hearing a lot of women dying who had kids, eg someone from work, Jade and that other lady who went skiing with her sons. (sorry forgot her name...)
I had to have a hysterectomy at the age of 32, so I won't be able to have any more kids but I love the 2 that I have already.

So now I feel better than ever and I can go anywhere without any problems. So now I want to get rid of the debt and have more fun in life as we never know when it is our time to go.

You might wish that you never asked now, but I did say I could talk forever about it. That was just the short version. Just can't believe that I am still alive today.

  • Yeah postman has been:j. I remember the days I use to dread post coming through the door now I love it.

Had my letter of confirmation from Barclays confirming that they received my payment for a full and final offer and the remaining balance has been written off. I am so please with that. I paid £860 for a debt of £1964.
I hope the rest of my creditors accept small amounts. So far they have only been offering £300 off, which I still won't be able to afford, but I will keep trying.

    Today ....
I have been for my morning walk.
Put in more washing. (How do the kids have so much clothes to wash all the time. I only have 2 boys, or is that the problem.)
Check online banking. My cheque fgor the out of school club has now been cashed and my dd for BT phone and mobile has come out today.

I still need to get some cash out of the bank to pay for my pedicure later and need a few food items from the shop. This will have to be my last time drawing cash out before payday on Thursday.

Still need to get an oil change before Thusday.
Get car checked over eg lights
DS1 swiming stuff for Friday - may have to get this tomorrow incase I don't get my car back on Thursday
Get rid of 5 unwanted items
    Pay my exam fee.

I did give my friend a call last night but it went to voice mail so left her a message. I will call someone else tonight that I haven't spoken to in ages.

  • I'm so sorry to hear about yr illness and so glad you've come though it.You've been through so much, you must be so proud of yrself, you've done amazing !

I know what u mean about Jade etc,i went and had a smear test because of her story(not had one for 9yrs) i got my results and they came back that ive got abnormal cells and have got to go back and have another smear.I'm worried sick as theres only me,got no family near by .I worry about my children being left to fend for themselves.

I know it sound daft at the moment but ive started getting ready for the worst.I'm starting to sort house out, start decluttering, getting organised etc and i'm going to take some life insurance out. I know i'm being abit silly and everything will prob be alright but its givin me the kick up the bum that i needed,i don't think anyone should take life for granted.
  • Hi skint, sorry to hear about what you are going through at the moment.
Hopefully it will come to nothing. I think now they are making sure every woman is completely clear since the Jade situation.

I know it is easy to say not to worry too much, but still try to enjoy each day as much as you can.

I had also took out life insurance and tried to declutter the house but was too ill to do so. I am better now but still have the clutter which I need to get rid of.

Hi NLA - I think you are doing amazingly well - despite being dealt a number of blows! I must admit I had a wobble the other day because my DS had split the crotch area of all his school trousers, I broke my favourite casserole dish lid and my car is making odd noises. What will be will be - trying not to let it get to me anymore. DS has come home sick.

Today tho the sun is shining, I am still on track with my debt repayment and life is looking rosier again! Keeping putting one foot in front of the other and get to that debt free day.

Whatever you do with your accountancy exams - I hope it goes well for you!
