I put in my last years Gas and Electricity usage and Equigas quoted me £123 more than I'm going to pay with Staywarm (and Staywarm is unlimited use of course).
Using Uswitch as the comparison method, the price for the same usage being billed by Powergen Age Concern worked out at £72 more than Staywarm, so I'm not sure quite how you came to arrive at your saving!!
It is not possible to compare your savings with any other person unless they live in the same area of the country and use the same amount of gas and the same amount of electricity.
Also with Staywarm it depends on the number of people in the house and number of bedrooms - as well as area.0 -

Clearly you've missed the point I was making.
You may have missed the fact that as a graduate from the LSE, Martin Lewis has suggested, both on this site and on his appearances on the television, that us old folk over the age of 60yr should 'look at' Staywarm's prices, and it was this point that I was, indirectly, suggesting Ken68 should do.
Of course the Staywarm price is based on the criteria you stated, but then so is the Uswitch comparison site.
As a point of interest, you may have noticed at reply #10 that Ken68 has given the basis upon which he reached his assumption. By a quick calculation his figures gives a combined bill of around £375. Recently on the television an elderly couple said that their combined Gas and Electricity cost was £15 per week (£780 pa) and it was said that the 'average' bill will now be over £1000.
On this basis I think that it's fair to assume that Ken68's figures (unless he spends a great deal of time outside of the UK) is probably for a quarter!!
I'm sure you'll agree that the only way of making a true comparison would be to base one's figures on a full 12 months usage and, of course, once the market has settled.0 -

For some customers the price will increase from 31st March and not today. Quote from media release "The new prices are effective from 10 March 2006 for the majority of affected customers. Age Concern, EnergyOnline and prepayment customers will be see the increase from 31 March 2006." My figures, Mss....are for a year..and I take weekly and monthly readings so as to detect early signs of overuse...For example I can see where I started using a computer and where I bought a new AA rated Fridge/ Freezer and so on.These annualised figures go back to l998. Dec 02 to Dec 03 for example I used 1405 kwh Electric and 426 units of gas.For the year ending Feb 28 06 the figures were 1523 Electric and 425 units of gas. This for a semi detached house with loadsa insulation and double glazed but not cavity wall.Solo use mind you, makes a lot of difference.
I can only feed into the comparison site my usage and other details, and I get all the heat and electric I want, and retired so home a lot of the time.
If it helps I can give you further details on daily use.
Nice to talk.0 -

Yes, I've seen your post on the 'Water' forum - By the way, how's the hand washing going!!
So as not to antagonise other readers of this forum, this'll be the last reply you'll be getting from me.

No Standing charge Gas Unit charge (pence per kWh) 3.570p for the first 1143 kWh per quarter, and 2.145p thereafter. Electricity 17.180p for the first 200 kWh per quarter, and 7.070p thereafter.
Discounts Direct debit customers receive a discount of 3% off their total annual bill. Dual fuel customers receive a discount of 9% off their total annual bill. Total discount available of 12% off total annual bill.
All prices shown are inclusive of VAT at 5%.
I assume they are the new prices as they are different to the prices I pay at the moment. I'm not sure if they use variable pricing for different regions so the best way to find out may be to use the switching tool with your own post code and then if you click on the name of the supplier you get a pop up box with details including pricing. Interestingly when looking at my latest bill 'Feb 06' I notice I am paying a standing charge but not the higher rate for the first units per quarter, don't know why that is and am not inclined to give Powergen the opportunity to start messing around with my bills by asking them. I reckon this is working in my favour at the moment any way.Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.
