Most warning lights are oil pressure warning lights. When that comes on you don't want to keep driving (red light spells danger) and lots of damage may already be done to the engine. Much more sensible to keep checking the dipstick.0

The VW/Audi diesel engines do use oil. One of my clients gets a new Passat every 5 months or so and they all use it.
But, the OP has a TT and they are all petrol (at least until now, diesel on the way soon)0 -

the tdi tt has already landed.
even brand new vw petrol engines use oil for a while....work permit granted!0
