My Audi had no oil in it!

I brought an audi TT at a local audi dealership three weeks ago it was a 57 plate with 20,000 miles on the clock. It had the audi 110 point check (well they signed to say it had anyway!) and i was away. After 500 miles of motoring it starting playing up and cut out on me. Then the oil light came on and i could smell burning. My partner checked the oil and the dipstick was clean not a bit of oil on it!! As you can imagine i was not impressed! It was Easter Sunday so we could no do anything. On the Monday we went to see the dealer who sent the RAC out who again confirmed there was no oil showing on the dipstick at all!

Audi have given me a courtsey car and have now said that have sorted the oil and can have my car back! To be honest i really dont want the car back now after that and told them as much! I am not impressed that i have a signed form saying they had done a 110 point check when they obviously had not and i am not happy dealing with them now. Can anyone advise me on my rights??

Thank you!!

  • No idea.

But find out what they are before you communicate with Audi any further.

You never checked the oil level in 3 whole weeks?

I check my oil level at least once a week and sometimes more if I have long journeys to make - sometimes I'll check the oil nearly every day!

I'm guessing you bought the car under some Audi Approved Used Scheme? Do you have any of the documents to see if they offer a 14 day or 28 day no quibble refund or exchange scheme?

  • To be honest i would not expect to check the oil on an expensive car after three weeks of use and it had an audi 110 point check prior to leaving the dealer.

Have checked the documents and it does not say anything on them.

Does your car lose a lot of oil, or does it need topping up daily.
Mine never lose any, so I rarely check them anymore. Maybe once or twice a year.

If you have an Audi/VW/Seat you check the oil very regularly !!

A lesson learned I would hope. Sorry but even 'expensive' cars need basic maintenance. You could expect Audi to maintain your car for you, or you could do some basic weekly checks at home.

First thing I'd have checked before buying the car is the oil level.

I'm quite shocked by this. I would have trusted the dealership to do it's job properly and it wouldn't have occured to me there would be an oil issue.

I check my oil weekly,it uses about 1 litre per 1000 miles (96 a4 tdi).I would be surprised if the TT had no oil in it.I think there is either a problem (any oil on the floor where its parked or around the engine bay?) or someone at the garage screwed up.As others have said i would have checked the oil personally.Have a word with the garage and see what they say regarding the issue, maybe they will give you a free service next time or an extra warranty on the engine?Maybe worth an ask.

    Hope you get it sorted.

    Ben.
