I don't think its irrational, , you just want to do the right thing , without too much hassle.
You are at least making an effort to do the right thing, more than a lot of people would do.
I like the idea of a jar of water.0 -

It's just a cartridge- they're not complicated.
If you really don't want to hand it in to a police station, just cut it open from the plastic end. The little balls will pour out, followed by the plastic/fibre bit, then the gunpowder. Not complicated and you can dispose of all these easily. You can then put the gunpowder in some water and chuck it away.
Unless you take a hammer to the right part, it's not going to go off.
They're designed to be slightly waterproof, so putting them in water without a cut will have little effect.0 -
Splash proof may be.....submersible....i don't think so.0

You could always burn it.........
Actually that would be a stupid idea0 -

Agreed.
They will not go off easily at all, they need to be struck hard directly in the center of the primer.
Oh, and if it did end up in a fire, they generally just fizzle and die - quite rare for fire to make them go off. Do as above, cut the end off (not the primer end) pour out the buckshot and bin it.Happiness, is a Kebab called Doner.....:heart2::heart2:0 -
