Shotgun cartridge - where to put?

I had no idea where to ask this...nowhere seemed suitable really.
Anyway, just got a new (to us) car and when we were cleaning it out today, we found an unused shotgun cartridge in it.
It's obviously not the kind of thing you put in the bin...so what do we do with it?
Would the Police take it?

Take it to a police station.0

Having taken two rifle bullets to the police when clearing rubbish out of the attic of a house I had bought I would never take anything to them again. I was taken into an interview room for a lengthy interrogation and felt as though I was being treated as a criminal. Mind you this was 40 years ago and things have probably changed - for the worse no doubt!0

I have to say, that kind of situation crossed my mind economiser. We live in the Highlands where shooting etc is not unheard of so I didn't think anything of finding a cartridge tbh. However our local Police do seem to have a bit of a 'bully boy' reputation and I have a slightly worrying niggle if I'm honest.Herman - MP for all!0

Much as this sounds terrible...... wrap in in paper or something similar that you were going to throw away anyway, then just bin it.0 -
Just be careful if you throw it away - it will now have your DNA on it, so if anything happens with this cartridge in the future, your DNA will be on it and you will be in the frame.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0

And I thought I was paranoid.

Lol...I want to do that but I cant in all good faith. What if it went off somehow when the binman emptied the bin or a kid knocked the wheelie bin over and it went off then? :eek:Herman - MP for all!0 -
Ok, I doubt this is what you should do but it's what my ex reccomended to a friend who found themselves in a similar situation (he was in the forces). Drop it down the grate of the drains in the street. If anything does happen, it's underground so it's not going to hurt anyone other than rats, and it's unlikely to go off because it's also going to be sopping wet.0

just take it to the police station and then for your own piece of mind you know you did the right thing0
