if that's the price that's the market value, if it rents it's another thing - why expensive?

if you're on a low salary, you're on a low salary - fact.
don't expect people to drop prices just to suit you.

I take it you don't reccomend the charisma course you recently went on?

If Christ were crucified today he'd be charged rent for his cave...

And then be sued for breach of contract for leaving after 3 days but signing up for a year with a 6 month break clause!

And He'd forfeit His deposit for not leaving the stone where it was. And for a couple of nasty stains on the cave floor the agents would have to pay several denarii* to have removed in an hour or so.

I've vaguely got my eye on exeter, if I could find a job there, which would be doubtful. I'd be happy relocating there again. I've been looking at the prices of self-contained places and they are pricey for one person to fork out for.

That one in St Leonards I'd consider for price/location, because it's all inclusive it doesn't work out too shabby.

I value things based on "how much could I earn if I had to go temping" and that's always £1000/month takehome. The St Leonards one is cheaper than my current bedsit if I tot up the basic bills.

People in many areas on LHA can 'afford' a better place than many single working people. It's us singles, Graham, that really feel the pinch.
  • Just looking on Gumtree as I dunno how I got sidestracked there from ebay, but anyway, thought I'd look at the houses for rent....or rooms in most cases.

    !!!!!! is going on!?

A few select examples from this page:

    2 bed flat £680pcm
A double room in a house share, £450pcm
2 bed flat with "balcony" £685pcm
    Bedsit, £505pcm
    Single Room, £460

Is this normal?!? Seriously. Or are they really having some kind of desperate laugh? And thats just the first page. I can't believe someone would pay 6 grand for a bedsit for a year!!

It's cus these fools think there is an even bigger fool just around the corner willing to pay their inflated mortgage for them.

A BTLer friend of mine is now trying to sell off whatever he can and has to juggle between the properties that may still have equity and the ones he now realises he paid far too much for and will have to hope he can keep rented out for the next few years.

When I suggested he might try dropping his rent to get tenants into one recently he still couldn't grasp that with hundreds of people losing their jobs in the main cities folks might not be able to cover his inflated mortgages.

Interesting times. Set to get even more interesting if wages stay as static for a lot of folk as they have over the last three/four years.

The place I work for has just let go of over 1,000 people and the ones left were told there is no pay rise this year - no matter what your direct manager promised you.
