Just looking on Gumtree as I dunno how I got sidestracked there from ebay, but anyway, thought I'd look at the houses for rent....or rooms in most cases.
!!!!!! is going on!?
A few select examples from this page:
2 bed flat £680pcm
A double room in a house share, £450pcm
2 bed flat with "balcony" £685pcm
Bedsit, £505pcm
Single Room, £460
Is this normal?!? Seriously. Or are they really having some kind of desperate laugh? And thats just the first page. I can't believe someone would pay 6 grand for a bedsit for a year!!

Seems expensive to me, my sister is renting her 4 bed detached out at the minute for £650 p.m. garage, long drive, gardens front and rear, in a nice semi rural area on the Staffs/Cheshire border, 45 mins drive from Manchester. Those prices seem insane to me.0 -
The room prices look like room prices in London.
The flat prices are cheaper though.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

The simple test of whether it's 'normal' is whether they rent or not. The market decides a price, simple as that.0 -

From a different perspective maybe its a sign of BTL investors trying to cover their property costs.0 -
that £505 bedsit is in st Leonard's which is know as being a bit of a fancy postcode in exeter as all the private schools are around there. also that is for all bills plus lecky
the £460 single room flat is one that my new housemate looked at before he moved in here, nice place but a bit expensive for what you get.
i think that exeter is a fairly expensive place to buy a house, though i am loving the fact that its much cheaper to rent than the south east!

I'm not shocked by those prices, but then renting here in Edinburgh is pretty expensive. It's all about location, location, location surely?!0
