Hi thanks I will read the meters over the next couple of days, is there a better time to read them or can it be first thing in the morning?

    Incase I forget:
Hot water is on emersion almost all day, it is the only way it heats up and stays hot. Again I dont understand it as I flip down an electrical timer switch which puts themain boiler on, this heats the water and keeps it topped up, the main temperature control isnt unreasonably high just hot enough for a warm bath.
We have an electric power shower, which was installed last winter, previous to that it was just a bath with shower attatchment.
We have a big tropical fish tank
1 computer and 1 laptop (1 used most of day often both used in evening).

    X-Box 360 & Wii (not used regulrly).
Sky box and Sky+ box (used in evenings but rarely at same time).

    Housephone has answermachine.

Central heating / boiler is Gas.
    Hob is gas
    Oven is fan electric.

Gas fire hardly ever used (in harshest winter months maybe to heat 1 room rather than whole house).

Outside security light on a sensor so only goes on if detects movement (not during daylight of course).

No appliances in garage, shed or garden left on.

We have a fan / air conditioner in our bedroom on overnight most nights when we are sleeping as it gets very stuffy in there due to it being in middle of bungalow with no direct access to outdoors via windows. Windows actually open out into conservatry.

Convector heater on during late autumn - early spring to keep above freezing, sensor cuts out and in. Now unplugged.

Just 2 aduts, 2 dogs and the fish.

We live in a small 2 bedroom bungalow, semi-detatched. Fully insulated, energy saving bulbs etc.

Thats about it for 'out of ordinary' supply.

Will take readings over next few days and post up.

    Thanks again.

    :)

Crisp £ note could you change to a different tariff, sometimes this can help make some savings.

Also when you spoke to E.ON did they advise you when you were using most of your energy?

It does appear that your payments have been too low to cover the amount of energy that you have used. This is the reason for the debit.

As you have now cancelled your Direct Debit, follow up will start to recover the balance, I'd suggest setting something up to avoid this.

    Hope this helps.

    Helena.

    Hi Thanks for reply.

No to be honest I didnt find them very helpful at all, all I wanted to do was get something sorted.

I have been given a helpline number for 'e-ons hardship helpline' which I am going to phone later today to see what they can offer to help. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Hi thanks I will read the meters over the next couple of days, is there a better time to read them or can it be first thing in the morning? Doesn't matter but will be more accurate if the same time every day.

    Incase I forget:

Again I dont understand it as I flip down an electrical timer switch which puts themain boiler on, this heats the water and keeps it topped up, the main temperature control isnt unreasonably high just hot enough for a warm bath. This doesn't sound right - is probably costing a lot because it's not heating properly.
We have an electric power shower, which was installed last winter, previous to that it was just a bath with shower attatchment. This will contribute to high bills if used for long showers.
We have a big tropical fish tank I believe these can also be expensive to run.
1 computer and 1 laptop (1 used most of day often both used in evening). Laptops cost very little to run. Desktops more but not major.

    X-Box 360 & Wii (not used regulrly).
Sky box and Sky+ box (used in evenings but rarely at same time).

Housephone has answermachine. None of these are a big deal.

Central heating / boiler is Gas. Why do use an immersion heater if you have a gas boiler? Gas much cheaper.
    Hob is gas
    Oven is fan electric.

Gas fire hardly ever used (in harshest winter months maybe to heat 1 room rather than whole house).

Outside security light on a sensor so only goes on if detects movement (not during daylight of course).

We have a fan / air conditioner in our bedroom on overnight most nights when we are sleeping as it gets very stuffy in there due to it being in middle of bungalow with no direct access to outdoors via windows. Windows actually open out into conservatry. Pretty sure these are expensive to run - can you not make another room a bedroom and use this room for something else?

Convector heater on during late autumn - early spring to keep above freezing, sensor cuts out and in. Now unplugged. Expensive - better to use gas heating.

Just 2 aduts, 2 dogs and the fish. Lot of hot water for two - immerson heater on all day when you have a shower.

We live in a small 2 bedroom bungalow, semi-detatched. Fully insulated, energy saving bulbs etc.

Thats about it for 'out of ordinary' supply.

Will take readings over next few days and post up.

For comparison - we live in a mid terrace Victorian (high ceilings, poor insulation) house on three floors. Four grown up kids/teens with TV on much of day, xbox etc, hot water and cooking for six of us. This month we are averaging 14kwh a day electricity and about 26kwh gas (just under an imperial meter unit).

    Hi

Making another room into our bedroom, sadly not practical due to layout of bungalow. We would have but cant.

Dont take long showers, its a powershowr, electric.

I am not sure if it is an emertion heater switch, more of a timer swich as it an electric box that tell the boiler when to heat water /central heating.

Most of the main radiators have temperature control valves I forgot to add.

Also forgot to add we do washing daily, sometimes twice a day as hubby has dirty work clothes and rags / microfibre cloths he uses for cleaning work (oily not type can hang around in basket for week). Economy daily wash always pre-soak clothes overnight in bucket.

Diswasher on every day, small dishwasher, usually full no more space.

Usually home alone with 2 dogs in daytime. No TV / radio on. Usually washing machine in morning, dishwasher evening (befre we retire) TV evening from aound 6pm anytime till midnight.

Cant ditch and switch to cheaper supplier if wanted to until I cleared outstanding debt or would get a bill for settlemen of account - meaing would be paying out for 2 lots, arrears and new bill suppler.

Will haveto get to grips with the usage monitor gadget we have and see what the fishtank uses etc.

Thanks for advice so far wll montor meters and post up on Monday.

If there is only you in the house all day there is no way that you need to have your boiler on all day...even if it is gas rather than electric it will be eating up your supply! We have ours on for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening and that's enough for four of us to wash dishes and have baths as needed. So it sounds like you may well be using gas all day, and then electricity all night... And in the winter your convector heater is actually far more expensive to run that your gas central heating.
Could you ask E on how much of your debt is Gas and how much is electricity? That would help you to realise whiich one you are spending most on. Do you always provide them with up to date meter readings or have they been estimated for a long time? There have been huge hikes in gas and electricity over the last year and I don't think people realised how much their bills were going up and didn't increase their direct debits to pay for it, and are now starting to realise how much they have underpaid. At least if we can help you to get your usage down then more of your money will be going towards paying the debt off.

Hi it is an "Energy Monitor" that's all it says on the grey and green box sorry I cant find the company who make it. Yes it is a plug in sort similar to the one you have in the picture but sideways, (so you have the plug socket on the left and the screen on the right). 4 buttons above screen labelled up, down, price and set. Little instruction book is not much of a guide.

Think it was bought at Lidles a few months ago.

    Sorry cant be more specific!

    Thanks.

Ah, I don't know this one. The one I have gives far more information than I need. There is only one button that I use. If I plug in and put the washing machine on and press the yellow button, it tells me how many kwh is used (about 0.3 for 30deg wash and about 0.5 for an economy 40deg wash). If I press it again, it tells me how long it's been on. That's more useful for, say, the fridge. I left the fridge in for a few days and then averaged a daily kwh use.

I found it very useful when I was clueless. Play around with it - the kettle's a good one. Try different buttons until you find the one that records kwh.
