The cheek of some people!!

I sold an item last week, with the winning bid at 12.02 and 3 pounds p&p, 3 days passed and the 'winner' who put a bid in right at the last minute, had not made any contact so i sent a polite message asking when i should expect payment, He replied saying that he only had 12 pounds in his bank and can he pay that. I replied sorry, payment must be in full, as i've got to pay ebay 10% and he messaged back saying 12 pound is all he has, and he cant afford anymore!!!

He's been a member for 3 years, and does have negs and neutrals from sellers years ago stating he's a scammer/timewaster/none payer etc, but also has some positives!!

I've got strict buyer requirements about none-payers etc and he's gotten past that so obviously nothing too recent.

I've sent a request to cancel the transaction, but not heard anything as yet, and also forwarded all his messages to ebay...are they likely to do anything? To be honest, if he does pay in full, i'm not sure i'd be happy about sending the item as i suspect a chargeback may be likely for whatever reason!!

Ha! I just checked and his feedback score has gone up a star tonight, he's bought an item for 45 quid inc p&p...wonder if he tried haggling with them too?

Is this a common thing? I don't sell much, but i certainly do seem to attract 'em!!
If google doesn't know it, how should i?

Too late now, but never send a mutual. If your "buyer" decides they still want the item, then they can refuse to accept it, leaving you stuck with the fees and no way of pursuing an unpaid item.

Maybe the previous sellers have done the same, which is why he has slipped through your buyer blocks.

All you can do is hope he pays, if not, there is nothing you can do except chalk it down to experience, relist and move on.

You and he entered into a contract.
    He is trying to renege.
    Give him a non-payment strike.
I think ebay reimburse the auction costs.

That can't be done now that a mutual has been sent. You only get one shot at resolution - and a mutual is generally too risky, especially in an already tense situation like the OP has encountered.

  • Should i try sending another invoice then? There's no way i'm letting him have it for 12 and not pay postage! I've just posted another of the same item today and that cost 2.60 not including packaging costs!! What if he only actually pays me 12? where do i stand then?

I'm going from distant memory, but I think that whilst the mutual requets is still pending, you can not send another invoice - if it is refused by the buyer, then you may be able to resend.

If he pay's £12 by a direct transfer, then simply refund it.

All you can do at the moment is hope he accepts to cancel, and if not then move on and learn from it, but don't dwell on it.

  • Thanks for the advice, guess i should have asked here for tips before requesting to cancel!! If he doesn't respond will i get fvf's back? and be able to relist?

If he doesn't repsond, you won't get the fees back - only if he agrees to cancel will you get them back.

You can relist at any time though - just make sure that the guy is on your blocked bidder list - http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?bidderblocklogin

  • I blocked him earlier! I would like to relist now, but i guess that aint safe for me is it? while the dispute is open? I can't see anywhere how long he's got to respond?
