Don't think they've announced the details yet, the German scheme gives the same sort of money if you scrap a car that is 9+ and buy one that is less than a year old, don’t think there are limits on what you buy as long as it is less than a year old

Oh I bet there will be limits! Be kind to the motorist? Its not going to happen! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

It's not about the motorists, it's about the car companies, the motorist suffers because second cars lose value.

Cars get divided into two groups "new" (up to a year old) and "Not New", as the “new” group now attracts a £2.5k subsidy then the value of the “not new” groups drops.

Think focus, one 11months old, one thirteen months valued at £7k & £7.5k, suddenly the £7.5k one can be driven off the forecourt by handing over £5k and the taxpayer contributes the other £2.5k. What happens to the value of the older one?

Instantly drops to under £5k is what I’d put my money one and that drop in value will ripple down through every car older than a year

Although it has been suggested in another thread by another poster that the money off is offset by the VAT charged.

As for decreasing the value of newer second-hand cars it will be a buyers market. Not all people will have had a banger in order to get £2k off, so for them the car on the dealers forecourt is still the same price. So the £7k one will probably not be worth the full discount amount less.

I don’t see how that will work

The market doesn’t truly exist if you have governments distorting it with tax payer cash. I think the just a year old ones will take the full hit. It’ll taper down as cars age and it’ll put an effective floor on the value of 10 year old cars of about £1.5k maybe £2k due to the trade in/subsidy value.

Have you noticed that all the 'scientists' that advise of the green issues are paid by the government?

There are a frightened few that have spoken out and said that the planet would be changing anyway............. David Bellamy springs to mind. Who? Yes him, he who is now not 'allowed' to be on tv and the like anymore.......... wonder why!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
