MOT Failure!
Comments

In my experience it did wth my centre section leaking. After replacement it went straight through the emissions test.
My results were...
Lambda at 1.144 at fast idle, then 1.164 at second fast idle - same limits as yours.
It passed with 1.012, then the MOT the year after 1.002.
Try taking the car for a long run before putting it in for the re-test to make sure everything is as hot as possible. Give it a good thrashing

As its holed.......... then would've thought having it replaced would be good whatever way you look at it.
Passing the MOT by rectifying the fault should not be a problem - unless you suspect something else wrong?Genie

It's boarder line scrapping time. The failure notice runs to 2 pages! the biggies being hole in rear chassis, new front spring.
Then there is this posibility of the scrapage scheme to mix it up a little.0 -

Weigh up cost of repairs against cost of buying another car - sometimes that helps.. especially if you love the car....
What car is it? Should I hazard a guess at an MX5?? If so, a bit of welding and good pattern spring may not break the bank....Genie

There you goNo surprise but will fixing the holed exhaust get my 1996 clio past the emmisions test?

No it's not the MX5 that would be an easy descision! I did give a clue in the 1st post its a 1996 clio with 141141 miles wife has had it from new!
The other trouble is we don't really need 2 cars at the mo but the mx5 aint the most practial.0 -
Ok ok - had a blonde moment.................There you go
Clio - hmmm.
Don't need two cars at the moment - typical male talk. Of course you need two cars!!! If you scrap the Clio and not replace it, your poor wife then has to ask you if she can go here, there or anywhere.
Do you need the car dear? Can you give me a lift?
She needs her own independence, trust me, I'm a doctor
Buy her something not French ...

The MX-5 is hers so I would be the one asking to borrow the car!0

If the exhaust has holes in it it will fail on that alone, regardless of emmissions,I should know mine failed on that yesterday:mad:0

Oh yes I know that is one of the lines, but I don't want to fix the exhaust then find that does not fix the emmissions problem cause that could get expensive.0
