I made an order through tesco direct online last Friday 10 April details as follows:-
Order Number: xxxxxxxx placed on Friday 10 April 2009
Your order is for collection from SPRINGHILL 2 Tesco after 4pm on Tuesday 14 April 2009
The full store address is:
SPRINGHILL SHOPPING CENT,
KILLEEN AVENUE,
BANGOR,
CO DOWN
I decided to go up today especially to pick it up as it was for a Birthday present, bearing in mind it was supposed to be there yesterday !!!!!!!.
I went to customer services to be told it wasn't in. DID noone think to either email or telephone me to tell me . It has cost me at least £10 in fuel to get to the store as I live in a very rural area. Also its take a good hour single or 2 hours return travel from the store. No apology or anything .
I got home and telephoned TESCO DIRECT and told them what had happened and told them that I wanted a compensation for the £10 of fuel as it was their fault it wasn't in. They then said because it was Easter it wasn't in. Have they never heard of a telephone or email. Or can they not update their systems to give a later date if this is the cause instead of lying to customers!!! Their stores where only closed Sunday !!. They refused to give me the £10.
Hence I will not be using TESCOs again for anything very very bad customer service

Mollypoppy I have posted on Tesco Direct (November 2008) they let me down twice really badly and I said I will never use them again - just awful. Sorry to hear you had problems too0
-
ring up their head office and complain - i would ask for £20 to cover the inconvenience that you have received as well as the crap service from tesco direct0

so you didnt get a call from tesco to say the item was in the store ready for pickup, i ordered an item and i had a phone call from tesco to say it was read to pick up, you thought maybe your at fault for not waiting for a call to say it was ready for pickup0 -
Tesco never call me to say that my items are ready for collection. If that's the system they want to operate, they should tell you to wait for the phone call when you purchase the item!0

mollypoppy, I know it's a slightly different issue but I ordered a Vacuum Cleaner from Tesco direct which arrived smashed (how on earth...I don't know). I complained via the customer services email and got £10 refunded of the price. Worth a try.0

i stand corrected, i just checked my emails and the email gives a date and time when it would be avavilable for pickup but for the item i ordered tesco called me to say that it was ready for pickup, theres no mention of tesco calling to say that it is actually in store ready for pickup0 -
This problem of people being told online that products can be picked up by xpm on a certain day but the product not being there seems to be common one. Happened to me too two days ago.
It might be that they do this to justify taking money and 'guaranteeing' a delivery/pick up date, but seems like the courier companies let them down.
And of course, when I got the item home it was broken, like the vac mentioned earlier.
I phone them up and they say they can only replace after 1-2 weeks becuase of the back-log. Again, looks like the outfit is run on a shoestring and they can't cope with the demand.
I phone again today and the guy says there is no record of me requesting a return and exchange! Muppets. But I have no choice I suppose. I will never shop with Tesco Direct again0
