    Hi Di

Been away for a bit, so sorry to hear about your dad :( my grandad had alzheimers for 12 years, my mum used to look after him so I know how exhausting it can be looking after someone like that, I hope everything gets better for you and him soon. :A

    Hiya Mel and thank you.:A

Dad seems to be even more better today, he gets his good and bad days, and having everything he should be having in regards of his meds, too much meds really bless him.
We all try to do our little bit when we can, good job I have a big family really, even though the one sister lives about 200 miles away or more, but there is enough of us around.;)
Sorry to hear that your gramp had this, I know its not easy is it?
    Cheers for asking.;):A

I know, my grandad was always worse if he or my nan had to go into hospital - he hated being without her!

He was on Aricept for years which worked really well for him, he had alzheimers for 12 years but he was never so bad that he didn't know who the close family was or anything like that.

He tripped one day taking a plate to the kitchen and broke his hand, because of the extra problems this caused his mobility he had to go to a nursing home because it was too much for my mum and nan to do everything for him without help.

The nursing home say they "didn't know" he was on aricept and never gave him the meds for the 2 weeks he was there  they said he was violent (which would only have been if he hadn't had his medication) and he kept trying to get in another patients room because he said my nan was in there and they were keeping her from him  so they were giving him sedatives.

He got soo bad so quickly, which I think was the result of taking him off the medication that was helping keep his brain active and putting him on medication that was shutting his brain down.:mad:

Whoops ... I'm sorry for ranting :p I'm glad you have a big family to help..the more people there are the easier it is for everyone else to cope with, it really is draining just dealing with the emotional side of what happens in these situations :A

awe Mel I am so sorry to hear this of your gramp, bless him and you and your family......, its heartbreaking isn't it?

My dad is only 68, had this since the age of 59 going on 60 for the diagnosis, and he is falling a lot as well, but I have to keep reminding mum to give his medication if no one else are about, even though these are all set up for him by a chemist, mum tends to forget at times, and as you know yourself, this does not help.

I know he is really still here physically but he is calling my mum "ma" now, bless him and of course he talks a lot about of then he was a child, he got up one night about 3 am and panicked he was going to be late for school, he was looking for his shoes, then of course because he was getting all frustrated, the outbursts come in.

I just wish mum would allow for dad to receive more professional help, even though we are all doing all we can but sometimes he does need the professionals, she complains she cannot cope but refuses all the help dad is entitled too unfortunately......

 Aww your poor dad, I am so sorry you all have to go through all this, my grandad was 88 when he died last year so to me 68 seems really young! My grandad used to get up in the middle of the night and tell my nan he was going to work...my nan just let him then called my mum to fetch him back (he would have had some trouble getting there ....he lived on the other side of the country to where this job had been :rotfl:)

And he always said he hated all the "young girls" coming to help him get washed and dressed. It's losing their independence that is hardest for them, which is probably why your mum doesn't want help she should be getting :(

Mel this must have been so difficult for you and your family.

Bless him your gramp was a card wasn't he? lol :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:, I know with dad, now and again he can say some funny things, his community nurse who calls in now and again asked my dad if he remembered his name, (the nurse is named Brian), so my dad could not remember, but when Brian said it begins with B he said "B***t**D........, he certainly remembers that words alright lol :rotfl::rotfl:,Brian did see the funny side of things but did not expect dad to say that lmao :rotfl::rotfl::D

Yeah I suppose it must be difficult, when losing all your independence, then suddenly having all strange females coming in taking over the personal matters.

    Hi everyone,

Di sorry to hear about your dad, hope he gets better soon as it must be such a worry for you.

Marshallka how is your dog. Did he have his operation at the vet's.

Pinknico are your eyes getting better.

Haven't been able to get on lately due to work and my daughter came home for a few days. It was lovely to see her. She is finished uni until September and has an interveiw for a job on Friday to get some pocket money for the summer. I hope it goes well for her.

Hope you all have a good day and sorry if I missed anyone out.

    Take care
