If you go direct, ifyou use someone like H&L the initial fee is normally discounted to nil.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
Yea Ive heard of that but many people are stuck in other pension schemes where they pay the full whack.
I think its possible to transfer but often theres all sorts of entanglements and complications to it
I remember dithering dad last autumn saying how he'd switch out at his estimation of a peak then switch back and really I think he must have had hl or similar in order for that to make sense.
Unfortunately he isnt on this board to give his opinion any more afaik
I believe he'd not see a clear distinction to sell or buy at the moment0 -

For anyone with indian investments or stocks with substantial operations there like cairn or Vedanta this could be of interest :Sept. 21 (Bloomberg) -- India’s central bank will allow the rupee to strengthen in order to reduce the cost of imports and curb inflation without raising borrowing costs, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and HDFC Bank Ltd. said.
The rupee has strengthened 1.2 percent this year, lagging the 12 percent gain in the Indonesian rupiah and the 4.1 percent advance in the South Korean won. It closed at 48.135 per dollar on Sept. 18 in Mumbai. The median estimate of 27 strategists surveyed by Bloomberg News is for it to end the year at 47.25.

I have been looking to switch part of my US investments, may be just the ticket.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. As a shareholder in UK Coal I have been offered the chance to buy further shares at 75p per share , currently 110p , as part of a share issue to try and reduce company debts and raise monies for future investment . What do the board members think of this , maybe ok in the long term?0

Company losing money, which is a concern, but lots are, hence almost daily cashcalls. If you dont take up offer you will suffer dilution, shareprice will undoubtably fall a bit further, but if it stays close to a £1 the new shares will compensate. Most recent offers have been worthwhile.
Check out forum on iii.co.uk,where fellow holders might help you decide0 -
Rights issues have been a good deal in this recent rally. Depends if you think coal is a good commodity I guess, I dont know much about them. Nuclear power is running out in the uk Ive heard recently
Rights money well used generally raises the share price after completion (especially if the debt is depressing share value) but theres no obvious or guaranteed profit from taking part afaik

Just checked and its not Rights Issue(you cant sell Rights)
Just an open offer,as I stated if you dont take it up you will suffer dilution.
Seems to have suffered two fold, lower price of coal and also as a landowner, lower price of land.
Also No Dividend is a dissapointment0 -

I had (up until Thursday last week) 10% of my investments in two coal companies (WTN and CZA); so coal was a good performer and I think there will be plusses going forward. Having said that, not all coal is the same. Two principle versions, metalurgical and thermal. Then you need to assess the deamnd for the type of coal including its sulphur content.
Without knowing UK Coal too much I can't comment so it comes down to if you think their product is / will be in demand.
I wouold be tempted to take up the rights issue (but thats just me).Personal Responsibility - Sad but True
