Out of idle curiosity, why does the ftse100 screen above have 105 stocks in it?
Emotions are a killer in trading, human nature has an inherent need to personalize everything, which is why imho, trading strategies should be as mechanical a possible so a trader remains detached from the whole process, it is probably one of the hardest skills to accomplish without handing the whole process over to a computer, and quite frankly for whatever reason it is beyond attainment for most people.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

absolutely right and that is why paper trading is worse than useless. Trading with real money sorts the men from the boys0 -
Well, Royal Dutch Shell and Schroders are two constituents who are listed twice (different share classes). But that doesn't explain the other three.0

SPR? your link just shows me a blank page, not sure if it's my system or something else.

Too clever website stops me sharing that link, here are the support pivot resistance levels for yesterday including spx. Probably would be good if I worked it out myself in future

There has been or are even still funds run completely by computers. I think the people interfered when it looked like the computer was about to trade badly, turns out the computer was right, opps
I think getting a feel for a company or market moves helps alot, to then place that ahead of your fear/ambitions of losing or gaining money is hard yea
Same list by Market cap, amlin as smallest appears to be misplaced in the list

Kaz owns a quarter of ENRC but its own market cap is half the size. Seems quite lobsided especially when Kaz wants to take over enrc completely

not sure about BP at the moment sabre, I wouldn't buy it right now, check this board if you are interested http://www.iii.co.uk/investment/detail?display=discussion&code=cotn:BP-.L&it=le .I'm concentrating on GKP as I believe there's still way to go upwards. I got in at the middle of the way up and am still doing 50% in about a week or so, with BP it would take ages to get the same result.0 -
You could take warrants or some leveraged bet on bp probably but otherwise yea.
If dollar gets stronger or the whole consumer demand not returning story becomes more focused that'll mean a drop in the oil price and also the bp share price I would guess
William Hill is mentioned and its related to Ptec so just this tip in case its of use to any
William Hill Plc (WMH)Horse racing is bad, said Jeffrey Bernard, because there is a line of windows that says 'Bet' and only one that says 'Pay'.Answer: Buy the shares. But there has not been so much green grass for bookmakers to graze on in recent years.Their world has changed, and so has William Hill's. Has the company adapted to the changing times? You bet...

good read about william hill and video link ;-)Oh well we only live once ;-)0 -
They do look cheap, cant say I know much about them otherwise. We do have a thriving gambling section on this forum I believe though they dont aim to gamble as such I wonder how they'd rate wmh online system and its prospects
I'll add them to my watchlist anyway, see how they compare to igg
Fresnillo increasingly looks attractive to me at least on scale anyhow. They got major support at this level (ipo was 530), announced some results today with falling profits but nothing that bad really afaik and the prospects of a higher silver price are still there though commoditys are out of favour with the market for now.
Risky business but they still yield a decent div and are maybe declining leading upto and hopefully rising exdiv, depending alot on currency and china
monday morning chart looks bullish to me0 -
i know a bit about the gaming ind myself one way or another i was involved for a good few years being good and bad:rolleyes:
i dont know much about betting companys but 1 thing i do know william hill is a big player in the game and what has changed in this game is the (online betting and gaming fruits / poker/ black jacks etc )
imo the days of high street arcades and seafront arcades is getting harder and harder as years go on
im sure big places like blackpool etc will always do well but its the little places are getting a tuff ride now
im not a gambler on horses or dogs etc ( only gamble for me is the stock market and being a landlord in property )
I can see there is a future in online gaming big time
its a guess which firm or company is going to corner the world market
but i would like to think william hill will be up there somewhere!;)
with the added on bonuses of tax reductions for the firm is good move
sadly Uk goverment/tax department do kick themselfs in the teeth sometimes:think:
anyway i will be watching this firm closely myself :beer:Oh well we only live once ;-)0
