Its not a shock to me
but I guess that covers it however its not new exactly, in Jan it was new to me anyway (not sure if its spread now).
The whole thing is progressing, after the bonds get hit the schedule should see currency seriously suffer apparently.
Credit deleveraging puts pressure on each form of virtual cash in turn, elevating the worth of more solid items like gold apparently. I wish I had the article I read two years ago to show but I threw it away just after bear sterns not realising, opps
Just noticed one of our major FTSE stocks is going through an adjustment which gives us some prediction on the course overall I think

So in theory the target is 130 without any major trend being broken, its lost some support. A 9% drop
Euro vs Sterling has done a double touch of the year lows, now more positive http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ppj0EPX87wo“You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth. Son, we live in a country with an investment gap. And that gap needs to be filled by men with money. Who’s gonna do it? You? You, Middle Class Consumer? Goldman Sachs has a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lehman and you curse derivatives. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what we know: that Lehman’s death, while tragic, probably saved the financial system. And that Goldman’s existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves pension funds. You don’t want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want us to fill that investment gap. You need us to fill that gap. “We use words like credit default swaps, collateralized debt obligation, and securitization? We use these words as the backbone of a life spent investing in something. You use ‘em as a punchline. We have neither the time nor the inclination to explain ourselves to a commoner who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very credit we provide, and then questions the manner in which we provide it! We’d rather you just said thank you and paid your taxes on time. Otherwise, we suggest you get an account and start trading. Either way, we don’t give a damn what you think you’re entitled to!”

I did a bit of profit taking today, selling Apple, Lloyds and ABF. I'd be happy tp see another 5-10% loss before the markets move on again. I think we are at a cross roads, either Greece get it's bail out and all will be OK for a while or the bail out fails and all hell brakes loose.0

The DEBT problems will ensure continuing volatility/opportunites
SPAIN now downgraded,a bigger player than Greece.
Affecting SANTANDER take a lok at PFG & BRE Sabre,both have a better yield 7.5% and pay out soon(PFG 38p/4.5% in a fortnight)0 -
I will take a look at those thanks Tony. I'm usually pretty slow to react unfortunately as I background check most things
I'm buying a few BNC or santander shares because the yield is apparently over 10% Also because I like them anyway but they seem too cheap to me. The best time to buy appeared to be yesterday morning, I would expect them to rise today and maybe from here on similar to February
Ex div on 5th May and they are a quarterly share, so 2.5% return I guess
Also topping up a bit more of HOC. The silver price hasnt fallen really so is this all about fear, KAZ also has lost alot and looks weak enough to continue down. I need to be more pro active on these commodity shares because I did anticipate the top price in KAZ but took no action as I did not expect this much of a fall again I dont think the company risk reflects the price fall though they have risen alot (more then BNC)
They have more doubled since I first got some but still are not overvalued so far as I can tell assuming commodity prices stay at similar levels which seems likely to me
Watching Fres, its also threatening to become more negative but I still think a steady decline should occur
The US dollar is strong but demand for commoditys means their prices have not fallen as much as previously might have been true. Maybe the fear is of future falls I guess, who knows.
Centrica appears attractive, I think they just went ex div. Here is a list of who owns what uk power stations and which fuel. Like Drax they are over 5% yield, for anyone who pays a gas or elec bill then why not own some instead of saving at 2%.
Santander give better returns on their shares then they do on any savings account (though there is a 5% one) and I noticed their bonds are a bit under 10% yield also I thinkUK Large Power Station Outage Table LONDON (Dow Jones) -- The following table lists current outages at the larger power stations in England, Scotland & Wales since 04:00 GMT on April 28, 2010. This chart is EURO vs Dollar
I think it could turn around maybe, there is at least the possibility of that. Since currency is a bigger market then shares, it matters. This must be added to the bullish arguments I think
Pound is acting weak again and has never really challenged the February falls. I took a look at BHP as the largest constituent of the Asian Pacfic index and also the Australian stock market and concluded it was reasonable to rebuy a tracker also its about to go ex div so might as well
5% loss short term is highly possible but I like it long term, again it seems a reasonable risk vs reward though Im totally uncertain of direction right now0 -
Conflicting reports re BNC DIV(nothing suggests 10%)
iii say ex div 30/04/2010 @ 22p ?
General consensus around 60p/7.5% annual0 -
Santander are very keen on their customers holding their shares. They have a helpdesk I think however I dont like the broker they recommend and bnc has no stamp duty anyway.
They sent me a leaflet about a year ago which sounded too good to be true so I took a while to realise they were for real, I dont see the negatives on them really besides the obvious governmental problems which every western country has imo.
I hear you on conflicting info, I get that alot.
ex div is mostly always a Wednesday. Drax and centrica were yesterday, you can tell because they gapped down on open and had risen up till then
bigcharts have bnc as 0.11% yield and 756 P/EIts not really a British share so this is what I'd expect, lots of messed up data.
There are like 10 symbols for the company on various exchanges because unlike RBS they split up each subsidiary and allocate it separate capital and sometimes a listing. They listed a Brazil bank over the summer. HSBC does similar I think
Banco Santander Dividends paid
6th August 0.0933795 per share
OCT 0.115 per share
Feb 0.0870404 per share
Thats my personal record, the div is in euros I think and it will vary on the exchange rate, I stated it in £. Also they have a complicated method of paying, they want you to buy more shares so they pay you in rights but you can ask them to just give you the money I think, may vary on the broker used
Filling in the gaps, I estimate that is closer to 5% yield ? so maybe I have it wrong. I thought it was higher and I blame the website that said it was 10 for misleading me
Anyhow I still think thats ok and Im scaling in for overall longer term reasons though if they do fall before next wed I might do a lump sum also
Also meant to say HOC are a similar price now as it was in March 2009. There must be a bigger story behind that
http://www.google.co.uk/finance?q=banco%20santander&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=we
Sant is up 4.8% since I posted above, I didnt realise they were releasing results today, my info is so bad!
Slightly above estimates. Looks like I should have gone with a lump sum after all but the larger negative picture may again give another chance
