Anyone know if I book with Continental through Airline Network whether I'll be able to pick my seats? I want to be able to pick one with a laptop power point and only around 1/3 of the economy seats have this.

i think you should look at continentals website as i think the economy seats with laptop power points may only be pre-bookable if you belong to their 'OnePass Elite members' scheme.

re wise investor...im not keen on preferential seating for some customers, if they want to make a difference between good and bad seats based on your booking...be upfront about it

and also the less reasons "full fare" passengers have to pay inflated prices the better

    hi all,

i booked on virgin directly and was able to pick seats of my choice but could not do an online checkin i don't know why as no reasons where given.

this time while doing booking on BA i read the rule and it clearly states that people with kids can't do online checking as the crew will decide the seat allocation for people with kids due to safety reasons.

    cheers.

i'd imagine you can only check-in online close to your departure ie 24 hours before or so .
  • There are all sorts of restrictions as to where children may or may not sit, hence the need to check-in at a normal desk. It is also important that checks are made to ensure the adult is 'allowed' to take the child, which would be impossible online or at a self-service machine.
  • we are due to fly with Thomas Cook from Birmingham to Sharm El sheik is there any way i can check the seating on the flight we are going on
  • I booked through Opodo for an American Airlines flight and I have just been able to go in and select my seats.

Thank you for the reminder though.

If you are flying lounghaul then always join the airline's frequent flyer program as this will give you priority on seat allocation and any upgrades. The people in the worst seats are almost always those who booked through bucket shops and have no status with the airline. Then again, some people don't care which seat they get as long as they get the cheapest possible fare.

Also, whenever possible, check-in online and choose your own seat. Most airlines allow this from departure T-24.

It's not about good and bad seats but more about good and occasional customers and nobody pays full fare to sit in the front of economy rather than the back.

As with any service provider, it makes perfect sense to provide ones better customers with the better service and that applies whether you are an airline, a restaurant, a plumber, a hairdresser, whatever.

Everyone knows airlines fill economy seats around roughly the same principle with frequent flyers forward in economy, direct bookings mid and third parties rear. Over and above this airlines will unofficially block middle seats on request to give FF's with status more elbow room and only release the seats if needed.

It's not about inequality but good business sense. :)
