Need gift ideas for wife (who's a new mother!)

Options
My wife recently gave birth to our 1st child, and it's her birthday coming up... we don't have lots of money so we agreed that for each other's birthday, we would get things that our son would need.

That said, he has pretty much everything he needs right now, and I would still like to get something soppy for my wife, but ideally, something baby-related (without breaking the bank!)... only problem is that I'm stuck for ideas!

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Thanks in advance

You could get one of those kits where you can make baby hand and foot prints? If you google baby footprint kit there's loads and they're not too expensive. Or take a picture and get a really nice frame?
Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.

how about something like a book of vouchers ,
each one promising a different thing like you doing the shopping for her
or doing a full night of feeds (if she isnt breast feeding )
or letting her have a long soak in the bath
or for you to take the baby out for the afternoon for her to get a sleep

something that means a lot to a new stressed out mummy
  • When I've given presents to new mothers, I've tended to deliberately not get baby-related things... you'll probably be inundated over the next few months (and years!) with things for the baby so I think it's nice to get something for the mother herself. We're expecting our first and I would really appreciate my DH remembering every so often that I'm a wife and a woman as well as a mother (we even put this in our vows for both of us!)

Is there anything she really likes? Maybe some luxury spa stuff, or a voucher for a treatment? (you could even do this at home on a budget, give her a pampering) or get her favourite foods and make her a special candle-lit dinner? Or even some 'vouchers' that she can 'cash in' with you for various treats and privileges? Probably a bit of time and space is more valuable to her than things you could buy?

  • My little boy is 6 months now (altho baby no4) and the best thing anyone could have given me is a full nights sleep and would loved to have had a pamper session at a salon (i,e hair and massage)

Congrats on your little bundle:beer: and what a lovely thoughtful hubby you are :A
  • Well our first baby is due in 7 days and it's my birthday in 15 days so similar situation :) I've asked my OH for a nice changing bag, as it's kind of for me, but kind of for the baby too...

I think the hand and footprint kit is a brilliant idea. If you had a but more to spend I would say the jewellery you can get made with the fingerprint in silver would be lovely too but they are quite dear. I've got a necklace with two pendants (one for each child) and I've never taken it off, I love it.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. In response to a couple of things....

Re: Rest/relaxation/full night of sleep - i'm trying to do this anyway, but it's REALLY difficult as she doesn't let me! She's also breast-feeding, so although she could express, she doesn't want to introduce a bottle yet, and wants to do it solely by breast for a while.

Re: pampering-type gifts - she's not really one for this kind of gift, and I've kinda done the romantic dinner thing quite a bit in the past!

Please keep the ideas coming, thanks a lot! :-)

You know you can get a free changing bag from Boots? We've got one....
