Have you tried putting a notice on the gate? Polite notice please do not park in front of these gates.
Maybe the notice would work because sometimes the word polite is mistaken for police, also a notice is quite off putting. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -

I wouldn't bother asking them to move if you are around & don't need to go out. Go over, be firm but polite, & insist that they move as you HAVE to go out. And then do go out somewhere. Repeat at very inconvenient times until they get the message.
As annoying as it is, they are just selfish, & think that you are getting in a strop over nothing as they have parked, & you are in & not going anywhere...so like what's the problem??0 -

I agree. It may be difficult to keep doing this but if the persistent offenders know that will they have to move their car if they park there then they will be less likely to want to use that parking space. You could also say to them that you are going out in half an hour could you please have their mobile number so that you can ring them when you want the car moved. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -

If you are going to write a letter to the mother you could start off by writing a 'reasonable' letter. You could say you don't mind the children parking in front of your drive but you would like a phone/mobile phone number that you could ring when you want to get out to save you knocking on the door.
That might stop it or you might get a phone number. If you get their phone number then ring them every time they park there and ask them to come out. Time it for when you think they might be eating/watching tv. Then just pop to the local shop or something. If they park in front of your drive when you have gone out then they will have to move again when you come back. Even if they won't give you a phone number knock on the door every time and say you have to go out. This will make it inconvenient for them to park there and hopefully they will get sick of it.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0
