A colleague (an avid UK stamp collector and Ebay trader) told me it is possible to buy bulks of valid first class and second class stamps on Ebay at prices lower than face value.
As weird as it seems, these are stocks that collectors want to get rid of.
Might be worth checking out too.0 -

I've posted a note to them (using a genuine address). It will be interesting to see if they reply.
What browser were you using - I had that problem with Firefox, but when I tried it using Internet Explorer, it worked fine.0 -
If stocking up before the price increase, you'll make a bigger saving if buying 2nd class stamps:
For 2nd class stamps, the 2p saving equates to 8.7%; on 1st class stamps you only save 6.25%. If you want to use 1st class stamps, buy 2nd class and smaller denominations to make up the difference.Dagobert0 -

If you read the price increase news on the royal mail website that the price advertised was up for consideration and wouldnt be confirmed until after review on the 21st March
see hereOn the 3rd April 2006 our new prices will come in to effect. To see details of all the changes you can read our "The sum of it" brochure.
Key changes
Letter prices in the UK remain lower than most other European countries and although some prices have gone up, other prices have gone down and some stay the same.
First Class stamps will increase to 32p for mail weighing up to 60g
First Class franking prices will increase to 31p for mail weighing up to 60g
Second Class stamps will increase to 23p for mail weighing up to 60g
A Second Class franking price will be introduced at 22p
Royal Mail Special Delivery® Next Day will increase by 25p to £4.10 for mail up to 100g.
These prices are valid from 3rd April 2006 to 21st August 2006; when Pricing in Proportion will be introduced. For full details please visit our Pricing in Proportion pages.
These prices, which are consistent with Postcomm’s price control announcement last month, are subject to Royal Mail accepting the regulator’s overall price control, which is currently out for consultation. A decision on whether to accept will not be taken until 21st March 2006. If there are any changes we will provide reasonable notice in the usual way.Veteran Bargain Hunter -

Hi,
I'd be interested to hear about your postal survey?
Thanks

Have checked out the Royal Mail website today: still says prices are conditional (guess they haven't got round to an update yet). However, I assume we would have heard if they increase hadn't been allowed.
Prices change for proportional sizes from 21st August and these have been finalised:
http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?catId=21100324&mediaId=21100370
Smallest size items will not go up again - suggest if you have stocked up on larger size greetings cards, you use these up first.
Still worth buying stamps until 1st April at the current rate.0
