1st & 2nd class stamps go up on April 3rd

Options
Just a reminder that the price of both 1st and 2nd class stamps go up on Monday 3rd April.

You might want to consider buying in advance - but only those with no value on them (i.e. 1st or 2nd). The lowest weight prices are both going up by 2p: to 32p and 23p.

Don't forget that in buying ahead, you tie up your money that could be used elsewhere.

(This may be in other forums, but I couldn't find it in the Grabbit one and I thought this was appropriate)

Costco do cheap (bulk) 1st class stamps which work out 2p cheaper at current prices....might be worth another trip out there.

Yup, we always get ours from Costco.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

Will buy a few "1st" ands "2nd" ahead of that - thanks.
  • Yup, Costco are currently 16.89 for 10 books of 6 (i.e., 60 x 1st class stamps) which is nearly 2p a stamp cheaper than the current price...

And, later in the year a new pricing structure comes in. The effect is greatest on large or bulky items. Standard rates don't change for items less than 5mm thick and up to about C5 size (envelope for A5 paper), and if you're posting a CD/DVD, there's no effect.

The new pricing structure comes in to effect on 21st August 2006 and takes in to account the size of a package as well as the weight. The Royal Mail has produced a free size guide that they will send to you. Just fill in your details at their site and order your size guide.

You should end up with a sizing guide, even if you don’t explicitly ask for one. The answer to question six on the Quick find information on size, weight and pricing page, indicates they’re going to be bombarding the country with the guides.

  • If you use plenty of stamps try Dauwalders, they are very good, fast & efficient service, minimum order £50:

http://www.worldstamps.co.uk/postage.htm - click the link for Cheap Postage Stamps if you're not directed to the correct page.
Stamps at a discount of up to 9%. Minimum order £50.00 face value

You only pay £46.00 for £50 worth of single value face value stamps. For 2 values, e.g. a 10p and a 20p stamp for 1st class, you can save 9% off face value. Give us a call on 01722 412100 and start saving now, and keep saving year on year on year!

All packs are of mixed values up to 30p. If you require higher values for parcel post etc we can offer high value packs (eg 50p face values) in multiples of £100 at 8% below face value.

They usually have stock with 1st or 2nd printed on them, so always worth buying just before a price increase.

Plus, when you get the normal mixed-price stamps they give you a load of old ones to make up the values, which are great fun as they can be from the 1960s onwards!
