I know, it's not right and so unfair to penalise families and staff who work in schools. The Government are supposed to be addressing this with travel agents, but to my knowledge nothing has changed.
You are allowed to withdraw children for up to 10 days during the school year. This has to be authorised by the Head Teacher and the School Governers.
Several parents of children in my class choose to remove their children during term time. Of course I totally sympathise with them, as it is so much cheaper, and it may be the difference between affording a holiday or not.
However, I am in the position to see that the children often suffer the consequences during their absence. They can fall behind on their Literacy and Numeracy, often missing important lessons that they will be tested on for their SATS examinations.
It's just so unfair! :mad:0 -
Sidney my daughter has never taken her kids out during term time apart from when they were in Nursery and I fully understand your concerns for kids whose parents do this...
It just means that they get maybe a weeks holiday every two or three yrs as its just impossible for her to afford more..... I sometimes take the children on holiday with me and dh but this isn't an ideal scenario for us the children or my daughter and son-in-law..... and once I retire this will no doubt be unaffordable also....
Its a terrible state of affairs, maybe they should bring back the old 'hop picking' holidays that my mum and dad talked about when I was young... :T at least it meant the kids got out of the city for short time ...
What the answer is I just don't know....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Sorry, don't quite understand - it's been another long day!
Are you referring to the 'adult only' holidays? I posted an earlier thread to ask if anyone knew of any Companies that specialise in this area. Not really up for those naughty ones though!

I have every respect for your daughter, she obviously realises how important her children's education is - good for her! Although everyone needs a holiday and an opportunity to spend quality time with their children. It's just a no win situation unfortunately.
Would love to hear more about the old 'hop picking' holidays, they sound fun and cheap! :rotfl:0 -

Hi,
No specifically for adult only, but try looking on http://www.alpha-rooms.com/ you can arrange hotel stays quite cheap there, they cover the Med, Canary island etc. Then you'd just need to get a flight- see where fits in with the cheap airline destinations. If you can fly midweek its cheaper than flying weekends.
Good luck, SarahYesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams
