why is my virgin account suspended?
Comments

What sort of reply were you expecting exactly? You are essentially asking complete strangers if they know why your Virgin account that they know nothing about has been suspended. Can you see the flaw in that? Is it not obvious to you that nobody will be able to anwser a question like that apart from Virgin?
Mate that's a bit heavy....... They were only asking a subjective question and to be honest it could be anything, as an additional cardholder she isn't to know so thought she'd try her luck here - no big deal is it?
As advised, its prob (99%) because of inactivity and then 4 purchases of similar nature all at once......
Perfectly valid question if you ask me.... I think you're out of order.

I must agree wuth you NID as at the end of the day its a question that the OP know they are unlikey to definatly find out the real reason why the account has been suspended but wished to find out if there were others that may have possibly had a similar thing happen to them.
Helpful posts are always advised and not ones just saying troll or in this case just ring them.
I'd try ringing them anyway and say that your the additional cardholder as yes your not the account holder but you may be able to request them to cintact the account holder at a later date just incase you forget to confirm that this was a vaild transaction.
IMO its worth a shot.0 -

Cheers mate
you're spot on - that's exactly what I was saying and Martin even says that there is no such thing as a daft question! Some people have not got a clue!
Regards to the call, they will not speak to her so pointless trying, they'd be in breach of DPA and to be honest the OP should respect this fact - at the end of the day at least she knows that her hubbys details are safe and secure
I bet it was the verification dept, they ring to check you made purchases and if you fail verification then they freeze your account until you get in touch and pass security/confirm expenditure.
No big deal, its easily sorted and the OP just needs to get hubby to ring up and they will lift the block. :T

the only reason y i suggested to the OP to try and ring them was back when i had a contract in my Ex-gf's name i managed to (on a bender) loose the phone so i called them up (Orange BTW) and they were able to put a outgoing calls barr on the sim card but with out the account holder to tlk to they werent able to put a IMEI block on that phone.
Which i would have thought would have been a breach of contract between Orange and my ex. But who knows eh?0 -
Only half my limit used and never missed a payment so why have they suspended my account? Had 4 transactions at 2 garden centres over weekend but surely they wouldn't regard that as unusual on a bank holiday weekend????? Hardly going to be Russian gangsters is it???? Glad i checked my account online and didn't have the card refused in a long line in tescos! This sound normal to anyone?
Hiya,
I'm not sure if it's the same thing but something very similar happened with my friends debit card last on Friday night. He used it to pay for a new t.v but when he went to get some cash from the ATM he couldn't get any and it was as though his account was frozen. He went to the bank today and asked them about it and was told that there was a limit as to what he could spend using his debit card before his account froze and his card had to be 're-set'...I've never heard of this before and he was furious as he didn't have any cash until the bank opened this morning! It might not be the same thing though so don't take that as gospel!Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

Yea I see your point but this would be to specifically pass security in order to reactivate the account which, unfortunately, requires the account holder to do it.
You can see what i'm saying, its two different things.....
for example, if I found a credit card and rung the number on the back, when I get through to someone i'd say I found this card and they'd ask me for the details and then cancel it - to protect the customer. It is not a breach of DPA if you're acting in the best interests of your customer to prevent fraud.

Yes some banks (Barlcays and Lloyds are main ones) that have a daily limit for purchases. If this is the case then its best to withdraw cash and then make big purchase.
I bought a new car using maestro and at the point of sale in the ford garage the machine read 'ring for authorisation' at which point the garage rung a number they have and they had to put me on phone to answer security and they said they could decline payment as my limit was 750 not 18 grand.
I told em to bollox as it was my money and as it was electronic the banking code clearly says I can spend it all without notice. Anyway, they authorised the payment and changed my daily limit from 750 to 3k as I do spend lareg amounts. Owt after 3k always goes for authorisation.
Its a safe guard thats all.

But that is the best answer to the question... get hubby to ring up.
To the thread title Question but the initial post ending question beingThis sound normal to anyone?
No its not. That question is asking for other input on WHETHER this has happened to them or not.
And yes i understand that inevitability her hubby will need to ring up but i only suggested that she ask for them to contact her hubby when it is more appropriate as a sort of safe guard even if it is a letter through the post which i honestly can say that i dont find too much of an ask from anyone let alone a CC company. I mean is it not in the CC companys interest to make sure that there are no fraudulent transaction and that after they have suspended an account to get that account re-activated ASAP so that the cardholder/s can make use of them?0 -
Thank NID but he managed to pay nearly a grand for a t.v with a stand a few 'extras' then the bank froze his account and told him that he should of only been allowed to spend up to £375! I just thought that maybe the same thing had happened with shamac's cc.Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10
