Laptop message please help

My daughter has a toshiba laptop about 4 mths old she has just had a message come up on a black back ground with windows boot manager as the heading, its says windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your laptop.
This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external usb drive while the device is in use or by faulty hardward such as a hard drive or cd rom that is failing.Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and them restart your computer. Please what does this mean we cant get rid of this.

Start by unplugging each USB device in turn and rebooting, to try to isolate the device that is causing the problem.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

What do youmean by 'no wires'? I mean any device plugged into the USB ports-printers, cameras, iPod, USB modem etc?
Yes, reboot means a normal restart.
Have you got any disks in the DVD drive, if so remove before reboot.

Usually a sign of failed hardware. Have you added any new hardware or installed new drivers for existing hardware recently?

Have you tried to boot into safe mode? (keep pressing F8 as your PC starts).

Can you specify the exact error message you are getting and the sequence-does it get to the Vista splash screen before the error message appears? If not, sounds like it won't load Vista, so something has corrupted.
Try starting in Safe Mode, (usually by repeatedly tapping F8 on boot up). Then select Safe Mode with Networking, see if it then boots to the Windows desktop. It won't look the same, but the desktop will be there and you should be able to connect to the net.

Did you keep slowly tapping F8 from startup, (about twice a second does it),sometimes it doesn't quite catch it in time, so try again if necessary.
Did you get to the Configuration page offering the options including Safe Mode, or did it go straight to the error message?
