  • hmm it doesnt sound good..

my car looks pretty when its all washed etc i washed it today.. im a poor student lol so i just manage to pay the car bills as it is lol

I mite look into givin it a wax etc and just see how we go but either way i didnt pay much for her so paying £1000 for a respray is pointless when the car cost me about the same lol!

Thank tho! keep posting stuff! that astra looks great! but i dont think i have the time and money to do that :( wish i did tho.. i dont have the knowledge either lol x

get onto www.detialingworld.co.uk post up your problem and theres probably a local memeber than will polish the car to a almost new finish

wont be dirt cheap , but cheaper than a respray ...then look after it

I also have a red corsa, mine started to go pink on the roof and bonnet. I got mine professionally polished, cost about £100, within a fortnight it was fading again. I got it redone for free but they told me it's just something that happens with red paint and weather. Regular waxing seems to slow it down. I would never buy a red car again!

I have a friend whos just done a mini up (proper one not a bmw one lol)
He did the paint work for it as he has the proper tools etc and the paint sprayer etc

do u think it would be a good idea to ask them if the would do it?
how much do you rekon would be a fair price to give them?

Try get a look at his/her handiwork first. Ask around some places for a ballpark figure. If they'd be happy with you covering the cost of the materials plus some on top for their time then it may work out ok. There is a chance they did it more for fun though and would balk at the idea of painting someone else's car (in case they mess up the job etc).
  • well the mini has come out looking great! i trust there work.. and tbf.. they cant really mess it up on a car thats almost 10 yrs old lol

If i say id cover there materials and time etc i think they would agree to it! ill ask them and let u no what they say lol x

Agree withe Chez. Vauxhall Red is one of the worst reds for fading. I had a red Corsa too and tried all the polishing, T-Cutting, and all sorts of polish and waxes. After a wash n wax the car would look good for a week and then return to the same terrible state.

In the end a friend who sprays aircraft had a look and he told me that the damage on red with UV goes really deep into the paint layers. He described it as "crumbling" below the surface and the only option was a respray.

I'd definitely go for a respray - particularly if you can persuade your friend to do it.

Spending money on detailing / expensive valeting will be throwing money down the drain.
  • paint seems to be a problem on VWs too

Yes, Tornado Red (used by VW Seat and Audi) has been prone to fading prematurely. Apparently they have corrected this now by applying a layer of laquer to the latest cars.

I had a red alfa that did it too. Lots of polishing and waxing required to keep it looking good.
