Corsa (Red) Possible Re-Spray?

Hey!
I have a lovely little Corsa C X reg with 61000 miles on the clock (lots of life left in her yet lol)

because shes corsa red.. the paint has faded and my roof is pink along with some of the doors etc however the front and back bumper havent faded.. so there a lovely colour red.. and the rest of the car is pink lol!

I was wondering where i start?! how much would it cost? id be having the same colour red. Do i need to contact the DVLA about any of it? do a garage like quick fit (sp?) do it?
Has anyone had there car done? Would it be easy to do it myself?

Just afew questions. Any advise welcome :o lol

No need to contact DVLA if colour is same as the description on the V5.

Kwikfit will not do resprays. A respray would cost about £1000 possibly more and would probably not be economically viable.

Respraying yourself would need a clean garage, a compressor (£100 upwards), and to get the correct primer/paint/lacquer. It would also take lots of time, care, and effort (hence why resprays are so expensive).

You could brush on something called coach enamel paint, but you would probably be dissatisfied with the results (the stuff looks best on a land rover or the like really).

Best thing you can do really is to try bring up the existing paint with a polish like T-cut. Try it in a small area carefully and see if it brings the faded pink back to a red, then do the rest. Take care not to rub hard though, you want the original colour back, not to get to the primer or metal. Washing and waxing regularly will then prevent the car turning pink in future. Make sure the car has a good waxing after t-cutting.

I had a corsa resprayed fully last year for £500. Again its was red that had turned pink.

You could spend a day buffing / polishing / waxing it, but within a fortnight it will have faded again (probably to a glossy pink if you used a good wax ;))

You need to shop around and find a cheap local sprayer - maybe someone who operates from a home / garage? They are around if you look hard enough.

If you sell the car you will get little for it because of the way the paintwork is, so by repainting you should a good part of it back at resale time.
  • thanks!

I have a friend whos just done a mini up (proper one not a bmw one lol)
He did the paint work for it as he has the proper tools etc and the paint sprayer etc

do u think it would be a good idea to ask them if the would do it?
how much do you rekon would be a fair price to give them?

they do it for fun really so its not too much of a job.. but do u think its worth asking? :)

There is a possibility that the paint can be restored by a professional detailer. Before you look at resprays if possible post some pics up of your car on detailing world and see if anyone over there can give some advice.

Have a look here, some very impressive results without respraying the car!

Polish brings off a layer of paint to reveal the paint closer to as it was new. A good wax will have UV filters in that prevent the fading action of the sun. I suspect most cars with faded paint have been washed but never seen a tin of wax in their life. Unfortunately red is the colour that fades easiest.

Thats brilliant.. but i dont think id be capable of doing that :( i dont wana mess anything up lol

how much would it cost tho?

In my experience with car trading and with vauxhalls particularly if they get that bad, then its pretty much irretrievable. It will look ok for a couple of weeks but even a good wax wont keep out all the UV light, so its only a matter of (short) time.

It really depends how badly the paint has oxidised. If it is severe then it will probably need a rotary on it . Not really sure about the cost your best bet is to post the pic on DW first then people will hopefully be able to tell you if you can restore the paint by hand.

If you want to go down that route, take it to a local car valeter, and ask them to buff / polish / wax it for you. It should cost £60-80. It will look good for a fortnight.

Professional detailing costs several hundred if the cars that bad. Also, ask them to guarantee that it wont fade again and see what they say. ;)

    No harm in asking!

Also, i got the corsa painted in bright red van paint. Came up a treat and is less prone to fading again (and the paint was cheaper!).
