No power soon? Police hold 114 in power protest

More than 100 people have been arrested in Nottingham over a suspected plan to target a power station.

"Officers said they believed those arrested were planning to protest at nearby Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station. A spokesman said "specialist equipment" had been found by officers who feared a threat to the safety of the site. He said police thought there was a "serious threat" to the coal-fired power station, which is eight miles south-west of Nottingham."

Interesting. Best check supplies of paraffin for the storm-lanterns...

Is this more use of the new anti-Terrorist legislation for purposes other combatting terrorism? I presume it wasn't Al Qu'eda targetting the power station

Not really seeing as they caught them.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

You need to understand the definition of terrorism....but what would you suppose the police do then when they find out about a power station that COULD be attacked?? fine them 20 quid and send them on their way?

Aggravated trespass, as defined in 1994:

    http://www.opsi.gov.uk/Acts/acts1994/ukpga_19940033_en_8

    Criminal damage act:

    http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1971/pdf/ukpga_19710048_en.pdf

These are the acts currently in use now, nothing to do with terrorism legislation.

I suggest you read your links again.

There is no listing for conspiracy of aggrevated trespass. It does list however Prohibiting Trespass Assembles.

    (1) If at any time the chief officer of police reasonably believes that an assembly is intended to be held in any district at a place on land to which the public has no right of access or only a limited right of access and that the assembly—
he may apply to the council of the district for an order prohibiting for a specified period the holding of all trespassory assemblies in the district or a part of it, as specified.

    (6) No order under this section shall prohibit the holding of assemblies for a period exceeding 4 days or in an area exceeding an area represented by a circle with a radius of 5 miles from a specified centre.

As for the Criminal Damage stuff I suggest you really do think about that one.....

You will also note that they were 7 Miles away from the said site & therefore NOT BREAKING ANY LAW as regards TRESPASS!!!

    :rotfl:

The only arrest powers they had were under the terrorism act..

    They were doing NOTHING wrong..

    No.

I think the point is there were no powers of arrest on either of these charges but yet there are 114 banged up..
