This challenge used to run every week (thanks to Moozie and PAP) but I have not seen it in a while so I hope no one minds but I need this to keep me on track ...

Hi PP - I am so pleased that you have 'revived' the weekly spending challenge thread - and for the right reasons, too. :T :T :T

Run in conjunction with the 'daily spend' thread, this thread did keep the spending of many of us, not least myself, in check. It's surprising just how a little thing like writing down what you think you need to spend can focus your mind and save you money.
Although I was not a regular subscriber to the weekly challenge thread, I can honestly say that the 'daily spend' thread totally altered my whole approach towards spending - particularily towards spending on 'unbudgeted' items.
I think that I may have been 'judged' by the number of bars of 'Tesco Value' or 'ASDA Smart Price' chocolate that, somehow seemed to find their way into our supermarket trolley, indeed still do :o, but before 'the thread' that would have been Cadbury's Dairy Milk or Lindt .
All credit to the legendary 'moozie' who founded both threads, ably and tirelessly aided by PaP, who did her best to keep the threads going when moozie 'left' the board. :T :T

And all credit to you, PP, for reviving it. :T :A :T

Just time to remind ourselves of moozies now famous catchphrase:

rog2 thank you for your kind words. I do hope this thread helpes to keep people on track. I know it helps me by making me think about every purchase I make.

Before I had no idea how much I spent on a weekly basis but now I always have an idea even if I have gone over by a bit, in context it is not bad as I could be spending hundreds everyweek.

Will you be joining us next week?

mcjordi sorry to hear that, keep trying it does get easier and as long as you have spent less than you usually would then it has been a sucessful week.

  • Well, after starting the week so well I blew the budget well and truly today. Had a friend round who has recently lost his job and so I bought some beers and took him out to dinner. Also laying some paving slabs in the garden so needed to buy slabs and sand. Will try and do better next week!

Will try for £20 again this week and stick to it!

Felt rubbish and miserable today, so I spent lots on magazines and snacks.

Still got £2.50 left in my purse though, so it's not all bad. :D (That's going into my savings pot.)

Well done greenies. I'll never be purple.

I'm in for £30 next week. Which is just non essentials and maybe petrol. My phone bill is due, but I've already accounted for that.

    Nite everyone.
    Looking forward to the future.
  • :j can I join too? do you include spends of the kids or just personal spends?
