Good point! Yes, the ones at Asda for 34p were plastic. Was considering metal, but at £1 more each, may aswell get cheap utensils and non-stick pans! :D

The leathers I looked at in Homebase were certainly a good deal, but not sure if we can afford that. Thinking maybe the cheap 2 seaters from Ikea. Around £120 each. Would like 2x 3-seaters though.

    Where is QD? Sounds good!

Wont need a table and chairs, but thanks :)

Going to buy a washing machine second hand, as we just cant afford to buy new.

What do you mean by floor mats? To wipe your feet on you mean?

One or two of those woolies bins might be a good idea, cheers!!! Although for ease (and can put liquids in) might get the small asda bin I mentioned above.

It certainly is quite fun, although scary at the same time... not to mention expensive!!! First timer here!! (as you can probably tell!)

Also, can anyone think of any other ESSENTIALS for moving into a new place?

Sounds like a good idea... Although cant afford to rent, but we both have a 28" CRT each, so that's no problem :) I'm a bit of an electronics hoarder, so I'll be fine for most stuff :D

Btw, that's the minimalist look I'd like (although probably with fabric sofas) :D
  • If you have a local Hospice furniture warehouse it could be worthwhile having a look around it, you might pick up a nice bedframe or three piece suite that someone else has tired of and can afford to donate to the hospice.
Don't forget Matalan and Primark for bits and bobs you had no idea you needed! And of course, ther's always ebay !!!
  • I agree with going for the cheapest in terms of airers etc, but when it comes to kettles etc, sometimes it is best to find a good make and find it at its cheapest using Kelkoo.co.uk etc. I bought a Tesco value kettle for about £5, the boiled water tasted terrible and it broke incredibly quickly.

Look at Argos for beds, you can get some good cheap ones to get you started.

Yep, looking on ebay for the bulky items, such as beds, tv units, washing machines, etc :D Not moving in for 2 weeks though, and no place to store anything though, so not buying anything just yet... Being a good moneysaver, and making sure I get the bargains ;)

Going to have a look up Matalan once we're all moved in and comfortable, since they wont have anything we 'need' as such. Great suggestion though, you're definitely right!

Bath towels/Hand towels (always a good idea to get a hand towel for the kitchen).
      Clothes pegs
Mugs (if not included in your dinner set)
Knick-nacks (or however they're spelt) such as vases and candles. I know they're not essentials exactly, but will only cost a few pounds and make a massive difference. Again, check out the supermarkets and Woolies for these. Also Ikea if you've got one close.
What about curtains? If you've got these, you'll need curtain tracks/poles if there aren't any there, curtain rings/hooks, etc.
      Bath mat
      Shower curtain
      Toilet brush
      Wine glasses
      Plastic measuring jug
Kitchen scales (mine are Tesco value ones and work fine. Very cheap too)
      Mixing bowl

I know not everyone will consider all of these essentials, but having just moved in to my first place, it's so easy to forget all these things that don't seem important until you find that you need it NOW!

Anyone got any ideas for cheap duvets aswell? I've been to Argos, but they seem expensive £12.99 for one or £19.99 for two. All I want are just plain white sheets. Also, the fitted sheet at nearly 9 quid from asda seemed a lot?
