Actually seen an AXA company laptop today with McAfee running on it !

Thanks for that but when I get as far as the services window you mention, the 'stop', start' etc options are only visible as faint items and are non-accessible, apparently.
Its status is shown as 'starting', which may be the problem.

Don't worry about ad-aware just installed Malwarebytes they wont conflict.0
