I'm well and truly cheesed off with Lavasoft and am about to uninstall Adaware as a result - I can't even start a scan as I keep getting a '1814 system error' message which asks me if I'm using the programme as a 'different user', if you please... and I've done absolutely nothing to provoke this.
Can anyone tell me what decent, free software is available out there? I'm running Vista basic on a Dell Inspiron 531.

Are you using the Anniversary Edition of Adaware? It's been fine for me so far.0

Move to Linux. All those Windoze problems go away.,... (but a few new ones crop up...)
3 major advantages to Linux, in my experience...
a) It is free. Yes, free as in "Free Beer"
b) It is found by users, big & small, to be more secure & less prone to attack by daft ***ers..
c) In my humble experience most things run noticeably faster. e.g. This Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop: Dual boots Vista & Ubuntu. Boots Linux in probably 1/2 the time. Word Processing & surfing noticeably quicker...
start here...
http://www.ubuntu.com/
experiment, try it, if you ike it use it...
- retire and wait for flames...
Cheers & best wishes to all, including those who don't agree with me!

P.S. & no more buying/trying more products to fix Mr Gates' minor defects....0 -

Thanks but as someone of relatively limited computer literacy I don't feel up to the challenge of an entire replacement of the OS.
Any advance on malwarebytes - and can anyone reassure me that it won't give me similar probs to adaware?theartfullodger wrote: »Move to Linux. All those Windoze problems go away.,... (but a few new ones crop up...)
