    Tesco may be worth applying for, they also give you an instant descion and limit

    Bank Accounts - Barlcays Premier[/B] - £1000 o/d, HSBC - £200 o/d- First Direct - £500
    Credit Cards - Barclaycard £2000 - Silver Card £1300 - Flybe £7500 - HSBC £1000 - First Direct £2500 First Direct Gold £3000

    The above is deffo the best line of action if he wants a mainstream card

    thank you for the advice i'll show him these posts when he returns

    i think he may still apply for the above cards
    he doesn't need a credit card its just an idea thats popped into his head
    he doesn't mind if afew searches affects his credit history in the short term

    The logic there is that a couple of searches show he does in fact exist - I assume he's on the elctoral roll? If so, how long? Do you have mortgage?

    If yes to all the above i'd assume he'd get a straight yes from most lenders, sub and mainstream..... :j

    Bear in mind that potential lenders cannot assess the way you handle credit directly. The best indications they have are the payment history and credit limits on his existing accounts with other lenders.

    Once he has operated a starter card (from his bank perhaps) for a bit, he'll find it easier to get the particular cards and credit limits that he wants ;)
