The issue with 3 is that their focus is on customer retention rather than their statutory and contractual obligations. This becomes particularly formidable when trying to cancel a contract after the minimum term. What should be simple, is made more complicated because 3 insist it should be done via phone through their call centres. On the basis, you have to trust the advisor to make the note on the file that the contract in on notice to terminate. If they don't do this, there is little you can do because there is no written evidence trail.
I believe this is an unfair term in their terms and conditions as it gives all the power to the supplier to determine if and when a contract has been ended. De facto, it places the consumer at a disadvantage. The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 states that:
“A contractual term which has not been individually negotiated shall
be regarded as unfair if, contrary to the requirement of good faith, it
causes a significant imbalance in the parties' rights and obligations
arising under the contract, to the detriment of the consumer.” (Regulation 5(1)
I have asked the OFT to look at this, with a request that 3, and other operators use a written process for giving notice and cancelling contracts.0 -
I was with 3 for 24 hours last week. Phoned them and they cancelled my 12 month contract immediately as I had no signal in the house.
My phone number is now dead but I am now concerned as I have not received any correspondence regarding termination of the contract.
Any advice would be appreciated.0 -

What issue do you have with calling an Indian call centre? You're not asking for anything complex.0 -

Just get a free PAYG Three sim and use that to call 333.====0 -
Why not email via the website? Or use SayNoTo0870 for a geographical number? You seem to be making heavy weather of getting an update! Pop in to a 3UK shop, borrow someone's 3 phone and call 333 - the options are varied.0
