Back to the original post....
First of all, I have read the thread in the quick links section, and the last post was around 2 years ago, so I was hoping to get some more up to date help.
I have sorted it out so I can borrow the full amount interest free and pay them off instead so I don't need to worry about monthly payments and the interest put ontop of that.
I'm a 19 male, passed a month ago, will get pass plus done before I take out the policy, have full time employment and live in a not horrible but not amazing area. The cars I'm looking at range from 1.0L polos to 1.2L 106's, all around 12 years old and will be parked on a driveway at night, third party fire and theft policy.
Now I have been on the big comparison sites and a few direct, and I cannot seem to get my quotes below £2300! I read threads and hear people saying they got theirs for around £1500 ect when they were 19ish, and I can get nowhere near that.
So I guess I am hoping you guys could reccommend the best insurance companies for people my age? Or where I may be going wrong? Except for being so young of course.
Thanks in advance, any input will be appreciated

Have a look at getting a quote for comprehensive as its often cheaper than TPF&T, also try with your girlfriend on as that can reduce it, adding one or both of your parents can also reduce it.

I`n afraid you have to try every insurance firm on the planet.
If there is a older person living at home, put them as a named driver.
Also do not forget the cashback sites,( quidco/rpoints).0 -
Try Elephant.com for insurance. My sons both used them in there name from year 2. I went on as the main driver for the first year and then they took over themselves the 2nd year but added me as a driver and the insurance cost really came down. But I would look for at least £1000 for a new driver. Some of the quotes they were getting was over £2500 as well. Im afraid until you really are 25 the insurance premuims will be quite high,0

Hi,
I am also a 19 year old male, i passed my test in august 2007 and have just renewed my insurance with Norwich union. They have a rapid bonus policy which is designed for young drivers, it is a 9 month policy but after the 9 months are up they give you an equivalent 1 year no claims discount so if you stick with them you can get 5 years no claims in only 45 months compared to the 60 months if you took an annual policy.
My first 9month policy with them cost £1366 and i have just renewed at £1002. The policy is fully comprehensive and includes what you would expect from a normal policy, courtesy car, windscreen cover etc. You can't get a quote for this policy online though you need to ring them and ask for a rapid bonus quote. I have a 53 reg 1.2 Vauxhall corsa sxi 3dr.
It doesn't always work out to be the cheapest for everyone, but it certainly has for me, both when taking out the inital policy and also when renewing only a few days ago.
Hope this helps

I would love to go on my dads policy but he has had 2 minor bumps in the last year so if I had to claim for any reason it would really screw his premiums up, alas there is no chance he would let me. I turn 20 in 6 months or so, but I simply can't wait that longHave a look at getting a quote for comprehensive as its often cheaper than TPF&T, also try with your girlfriend on as that can reduce it, adding one or both of your parents can also reduce it.
When do you turn 20?
I spent so much money on passing my test the 4th time it's a goal to get my first car.
Thanks for the suggestions rob and nico, elephant quoted me 3k and norwich union 5k! These insurance companies vary so much it's rediculous.
At the moment I'm doing what fto said and trying to get quotes from absolutely everywhere, oddly enough direct line are the cheapest at the moment (£1830) but I remember them quoting me stupid amounts only a month ago? Insure Your Motor are next cheapest at £20 over direct line, but aren't they a comparison company?
Any more suggestions would be welcome, thanks guys

Have you tried running a quote through for comprehensive?
Its also worth trying comprehensive with a big voluntary excess (The voluntary excess normally only applies if you claim for an accident where you are claiming for repairs to your own car, you normally do not have to pay it if its just the other driver claiming off you)0 -
Hi.give me some more details and I will try to find you a better price.
Dont give personal details only general. For ex. I only need your postcode for your address without giving the road name or house number and so on.I am pretty good
at these things so I will try to fing a better deal for you.0 -
The best for me (20 year old, 1.4 corsa, no mods, no NCB) were https://www.ecarinsurance.co.uk.
Give them a try, they were hundreds cheaper than anyone else I could get a quote from. Also went thru topcashback.co.uk, and got £40 back :money:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. try co-op insurance as well.
I think the insurance companies spread the risk with young drivers - so one month a company will be cheap - the month after it will be a different company. We were insured with Co-op a few years ago when two of my children had passed their test - and the following year it was really expensive on renewal!! We're with Swiftcover at the mo which was the cheapest with 2 under 25s on my policy.Bern :j0 -
My son took out his own insurance at 17 on a saxo for £1600 with Quinn, when he passed 7 weeks later they wanted another £1100 , so we cancelled that and he went with churchill fully comp for £1600 for the year, with me and his dad as named drivers. 1 year on and he has just insured it again with churchill for £710 , nobody could touch them for price, and the saxo is supposed to be higher risk, just keep shopping around.0
