This forum is for debating the recession. Not much of a debate if you can't post about job losses. In fact it would be a remarkably pain free recession if there weren't any.
"How's things?".
"Well I'm twenty p a week worse off, but StevieJ says it will all be OK."
So although the daily job total is grindingly tedious - that's what recessions are. And we can rest assured that in a couple of years (maybe) the bulls can post a never ending stream of new jobs - let's live in hope.0 -
So how do you interpret the original post?is it going to make any sort of difference to yourself?.
.
LOL, it will get tiresome, I agree, but thats not the point really. I find the news worrying, and of course its relevant to 'myself' as part of the country, a potential investor, someone considering starting a business in the future and as a compassionate human. Not just the jobs, and the increased pressure this puts not only on the individuals concerned and the system we all are part of to help people through times like this, but as a picture of increasing unemployment, and that on a human scale: some people who are proud, want to work and provide are going to be having an appaling time. I note that the anylsysts' more doomy forecast of 12000 is not being discussed much. I hope it doesn't become the 12000.
I also think the picture of dividends decreasing by 60% is concerning: going beyond the impact of the job losses. I also now want to find out why the contract of provision of service to the NHS is viewed as toxic and highlight this in particular in responce to your question.0 -
I'm with Lost-in-Rates about reading newspapers. Only buy Saturday's Daily Mail (for the TV guide, you understand - I know to read it with a salt cellar). Otherwise, it's online and from here.
Have spent the whole darn weekend here. Oh dear! Must get into the garden shortly.

Don't get me wrong, I love newspapers....but I think online and tv news is more immeadite in most cases and choosing the more indepth analysis is harder....and made much easier to be more broad in one's understanding via forums like this, and having the facility to ask about areas I don't understand.
I've been in the garden a lot. We've dug a new potager (although the fram for it is causing a nightmare, we bought it instead of building it as we have previously, and building was simpler!). We've run out of room in it immeadiately though. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the next wave of beans and the strawberries.0 -
crash over all back to work....queue up at the bank for you moI grew up in a third world country, I know what poverty is, don't throw your I'm holier than thou act on me to justify why you ONLY post bad news. You're only after a cheap house, you taunt the sellers on the house selling thread (to those selling in desperate times) by telling them their houses are over priced and then have the cheek to ask if anyone is selling in the area you want to buy.
You post news links without any analysis and or clarificatioall you are is a selfish self righteous man who wants the economy to collapse to buy a cheap housen, .
*ps, a board guide is allowed to have their own opinion, this is me*
misskool you may of been brought up in some country but it does not give you the right to get personal with me. i have never in all my posts got personal and i expect more from someone who is meant to represent this board...
you are is a selfish self righteous man who wants the economy to collapse to buy a cheap housen, . i do not need to buy a cheap house i do not need the economny to collapse as i have far more money than i ever ever need and i do not even work because i do not need the money ...
i wonder how old you are because i have been through a few ressessions and they are not a walk in the park..
as for only posting bad news.. iam afraid you sound like some one from the ministry of good imformation....all news is news thats it just news/.. i do not buy a daily paaper and have not for about twenty years.
you taunt the sellers on the house selling thread (to those selling in desperate times) by telling them their houses are over priced.......so was the rightmove report wrong were they said sellers are asking too much and need to drop theyre prices..
As for the usual suspects i expect nothing less...
neyIt is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -

There are some who only want bad news, there are some who only want good news. I want all news
but you've just defended Geoff for only posting bad news - how can you now want "all news". he simply doesn't do that - one of his posts was about a money lender raping a client, is that related to the economy and this specific board? i'd like to see someone justify that.
i don't mind bad news but i prefer a balance from posters with good and bad otherwise this board becomes the place for armagedonites to congregate just like hpc.co.uk is.0 -
Yeah but some people only post good news, what's the problem really? It all mixes up anyway, there are enough people jumping on anyone for posting ANY sort of news.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

chickney......of course its news.....it was a stay away from the scum news.....get the idea.....
THIS IS A MESSAGE FROM THE MINISTRY OF GOOD INFORMATION..
TODAY'S NEWS IS CANCELED ...SO ITS A NO NEWS DAY...It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?

No to censorship and the jokers who want to hide the scale of the depression that is upon us.Krusty & Phil Madoff, 1990 - 2007:
"Buy now because house prices only ever go UP, UP, UP."0 -

This isn't geoffky's forum. There are a lot of us. We can all post links, anecdotals, news, discuss things from diferent backgrounds, political standpoints and views/opinions.
The balance is made, partly by doomers, partly by whatever the opposite of that is...er...reckless optimists? ...and partly by more blanced people with a view, but an openess to different opinions. There are very few very balanced posters among us
I think geofky can be blanced out by one of the ''other extreme'' for me.0
