And they shouldn't - they should just decline to comment!

Sorry but i saw through you when you said in a previous post that employers are not allowed to give bad references.

'Tis true. You can be 'creative with your words' but you are not allowed to give a bad reference.

Horrifiedreader, there is an ignore button (I've said in my post above how to add someone) use it as it'll save you a lot of stress. When you answer someone like you have been - you know who I mean - it just makes things worse, if you stop feeding it then it'll go away!! ;)

    Hi,

I would like to say a big thank you to HorrifiedReader who I spoke with last night. She gave me lots of helpful advice and tips on how to prepare for Friday.

I phoned work yesterday asking for additional information about the allegations, but the MD was off, so Ive just phoned and requested the additional information and confirmed this via email and post. Ive asked that I receive it no later then Thursday morning so ive got 24 hours to go through it.

On the notes received so far, ive got quite a few bits jotted down to take into the meeting on Friday with me.

Ive asked for a copy of the company disciplinary policy so I can double check who it says I can bring to the meeting with me. Im not a member of a trade union and ive also been told im not permitted to talk to other staff members, so it leaves me with no-one I can take. Once ive received this i'll phone up and ask if I can take a friend along to make notes for me.
This gets sillier every time I read something new from your employer! From this, they don't even know for sure that something was stolen on that occasion! "Felt like there was something in the packet" - so she regularly checks her neighbours mail to see what's in it does she? And the police are checking you? And "Felt like" isn't exactly proof-positive, either! Did they get a warrant and search Miss A's rooms? I suspect not!
That was the initial report made when the lady phoned the company to complain. It went from
when she picked it up it had felt like there was something in the packet
when she phoned up on the 6th April to
Miss A stated that there had definitely been a package in the envelope when she put it on the communal table that morning
in a letter she sent on the 8th May.

    Thank you.
Im glad it wasnt just me taking the posts that way.

You are certainly not alone - the word harassment comes to mind!!! I wonder whether a certain finely-tuned legal mind can remember the legal definition of that! ;)

Seriously though you need to use the "ignore" button on someone who is being so deliberately argumentative and unhelpful. I hope everything turns out well for you.

I am a qualified HR Professional.

It amuses me when human resources managers refer to themselves as professionals. Usually they are anything but. Especially as they aren't qualified to discuss employment law.

You never hear a bin man or woman refer to themselves as a waste disposal professionals.
I am an employment solicitor. However, my views should not be taken to be legal advice. It's difficult to give correct opinion based on the information given by posters.

Please familiarise yourself with Spring v Guardian Assurance. Then perhaps you could apologise for giving incorrect information!

In there only 2 bits of advice on this forum they have entirely misled you or not known what they are on about.

To show up on Friday working off advice of someone who doesnt know what there talking aabout is very silly.

There should be rules against posters like that.

As for the bit you quote. time has passed and the story isnt completely different or such. theres certainly enough foundation as it stands to say the item was stolen.

Just so everyone knows, I have spoken to the OP at great length this evening and advised her accordingly.

As said earlier, I am a HR Professional and just wish I was nearer this lady to attend the meetings with her - would tear this Employer apart :)

I am intrigued as to why a HR Professional has a website advertising herself as an Avon rep!

OP, I really do wish you well with your case, but you need to take proper advice from this - not from anybody on here, and certainly not from an Avon rep.

Why in heaven's name can't you give a bad reference? And no, you shouldn't be 'creative with words'. If you negligently mislead a future employer by giving a better reference than the person deserves, you can be sued in tort.

Give a truthful reference (good or bad) or don't give one at all.

Are you another qualified HR professional?

The only advice I should have taken sooner was to place you on ignore. Job done.
