Housing crisis. Number 10 apologises over tory slur e-mail

Downing Street has apologised for e-mails sent by one of Gordon Brown's senior officials which reportedly discussed smearing top Conservatives.
The Daily Telegraph said the e-mails included unfounded allegations about Conservative leader David Cameron and shadow chancellor George Osborne.
Their author was thought to have sent them to former government spin doctor Derek Draper, who runs a pro-Labour blog.
It is understood that the official at the centre of the row has had to apologise to colleagues.

Oh dear oh dear! Gordon's senior advisor basically advising him to create lies to damn the tories goes wrong!
It's ok though, he's said sorry, so let him get on with the job.
This obviously isn't a one off occurance. It would be far too canny to say that this is the first time this has ever been thought of and it just got leaked. The fact it was sent to a pro labour blogger, presumably to use this as on "outlet" for the slur, says they knew exactly what they were doing.
The slurs were about the personal lives of senior tory cabinet members and were totally unfounded and looks like they were talking about how to use these.
I know it's not Browns fault, but this is yet another sleazy nail in the coffin for the labour party. To sink to these depths, they really must be desperate!!

Oh dear - someone got a bit carried away! Surely they know that you never send emails about smear campaigns before you start them?
As comedy of errors go its as silly a mistake as the Tory staffer changing that Wikipedia entry on Titian to support Cameron.0 -
Are you really as naive as you sound
Politicians of most persuasions have been doing that for a long time  Some even do it against their own colleagues
They have many cute terms like 'off the record'

Not like this though. Not personal unfounded made up lies.
They use spin all the time to have a go at each other. But I haven't seen actual plotting of lies on a personal level to smear other senior politicians before.0 -

I know it was only fiction but the recent re-run of the house of cards trilogy was excellent :T'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. mmmm, I don't really buy that. This feels like standard political dirty tricks to me. Their motives are open to conjecture, but I can't see any direct link to things money-wise...0 -

crikey I've never been accused of being serious before.0
